Fashion Friday: Bardot Alice Lace Body-Con Dress

I feel like I’m a lot more comfortable with makeup than I am fashion. I’m still perfecting my person aesthetic when it comes to clothes, and I think that part of it is caused by my general discomfort with my current weight. Accessorizing is so much easier (and more forgiving) than actual clothes. Still, as I’m searching for pieces for my Fashion Friday installments, I am always drawn to lace and things that are vintage-inspired. That’s probably why I’m now obsessed with the Bardot Alice Lace Body-Con Dress which is available at Nordstrom for $149.

I love that this dress is sexy but mysterious. The geometric cutouts are fascinating and remind me of Art Deco art and architecture from the 1920s. Also, the nude fabric and black lace work so well together. If I had a different body, I would absolutely buy this one. The only thing that I don’t love is the high neckline. I would much prefer a scoop neck.

Would you wear this piece or do you have a favorite vintage-inspired brand to share? Be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comment section!

Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick

I really love the Too Faced Melted lipsticks. Too Faced tends to discontinue all the products I end up loving, but thankfully they just keep coming out with more and more of these lipsticks. The latest version I had the opportunity to try is the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick, which can be purchased at Sephora and similar retailers for $21.

I was sent the shade “Queen B” which is supposed to be a soft mauve. While it definitely has mauve undertones, it seems too brown to really work with my complexion and has a tendency to make me look a bit sickly. So, I wouldn’t recommend this particular shade to those with cool skin tones or people who are very pale. Still, this was a pretty good lipstick.

It is indeed very matte, but it is not uncomfortable to wear. The texture is a bit velvety, but it sits lightly atop the skin of the lips. It’s pretty opaque, so you’ll only need one or two coats. Also, it’s not very messy and does apply pretty evenly (which can’t be said of the melted latex lipstick range). In terms of wear, it won’t last through a whole meal but it will stand up just fine when drinking. So, you’ll have to reapply at least once throughout the day, but it’s not too much of a hassle because it tends to fade pretty evenly. Overall, this is an improvement for the melted lipstick concept and another win for the Too Faced brand.

Have you tried any version of the melted lipsticks? Be sure to share your experience in the comment section!

Crest Gum & Enamel Repair Toothpaste

I’m a bit obsessed with dental health. It seems to be working because I’ve never had a cavity! Still, when I brush my teeth, I expect everything to feel wonderfully clean afterwards, which is why I’ve really been enjoying this latest product that was sent courtesy of Influenster: the Crest Gum & Enamel Repair Toothpaste. This product can be purchased at most grocery and drugstores for about $5.

I do tend to focus too much on whitening toothpastes instead of considering the whole mouth. I love that this toothpaste makes my teeth feel completely clean and gives me fresh breath while preventing cavities and gingivitis. This toothpaste packs a powerful punch as it deep cleans the whole mouth. I definitely recommend it, and I think I’ll buy the full size once this sample is all gone!

What is your favorite toothpaste? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

Hourglass is known for their amazing highlighters, but as a brand, they have so much more to offer. Recently, I got a sample of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and now I’m in love! This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $54.

First off, I love how this feels against my skin. It’s silky without making me feel oily or like something is coating my skin, and it really does smooth down my skin to prepare for an even makeup application. Also, some primers seem to irritate my acne, but this one has not!

Besides the great texture of the product, I have also found that makeup seems to last longer after using this product. Of course, that’s a huge benefit! Yes, the price tag is a bit higher than I’d like to see for a primer, but if it’s in your budget, I think it would be a good investment.

Have you tried this primer or do you have a favorite primer you want to share? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Tousling Mousse

Hair texture is a very individual thing. Some people have straight hair, and some people have curly hair, but most people have hair that is somewhere in between. My hair is mostly straight but it has a slight natural wave. When I curl it with heat, it doesn’t hold well, so I thought I’d look for a product that could work on its own to enhance the hair texture. I recently saw that Herbal Essences has re-released their Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Tousling Mousse. This product can be found at nearly any grocery or drugstore for about $4.

I used to use this product all the time before it disappeared, so I was so excited to see it again. Sure, it’s been reformulated, but I was excited all the same.

The first thing I noticed is that it smells different than the original product. The old version smelled AMAZING like African Violets. This one smells like Hibiscus. It’s still an okay scent, but I do miss the old scent, which I just adored.

The product still works well though! It’s a light mousse that I typically just use on wet hair, but it does give a bit more wave to my hair. My hair looks gently tousled with a bit more texture than usual when I use this product, and that’s exactly what I wanted. I really love this product. I just wish it still smelled like violets!

Fashion Friday: Longchamp Tote Bag

I’m a sucker for a tote bag – my closets are filled with them. But I’m just the kind of person who likes to carry a lot of stuff at all times. I always want to keep my kindle, makeup bag, and a small knitting project with me, so I typically only use smaller purses for special occasions when it would be cumbersome to have a big bag. So, recently, I was browsing Nordstrom and saw this amazing tote bag that I really want: the Longchamp Large Le Pliage Croc Print Tote which retails for $250.

Longchamp is an iconic brand, and their sturdy bags are close to legendary. I’d love to have one someday, especially one like this that is more grey, silver, and black in tone. I feel like almost all of the Longchamp bags I see are brown (and I don’t buy things that are brown – I don’t have anything against it, but it’s just not a color used in my personal styling). So, this was an exciting find! I’m also such a fan of things that are croc-embossed.

Another huge plus is that the top zips completely! I find that so many tote bags just have a button snap clasp which leaves gaping sides so that things can fall out really easily if the bag is tipped over. I would much prefer a bag like this that zips completely. It does influence the general shape of the bag and makes it seem less roomy, but that’s a small price to pay for the general feeling of security.

What do you look for in a tote bag? Do you like this one? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil

Acne is so annoying, but it’s even more annoying trying to find a product that can combat it well. There are lots of acne-fighting ingredients on the market, but they just don’t work for everyone. It takes some trial and error to see what will work for you. Thankfully, I’ve discovered that products with blue tansy seem to really help my skin, so I was excited when I was sent a deluxe sample of the Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil which contains blue tansy. This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $105.

I’m not going to lie, I definitely wanted to hate this product because of the steep price tag. Unfortunately, like most Sunday Riley products, it was actually fantastic. Even after one use, my skin looked clearer and more radiant. Over time, my acne has started improving, and my pores look less noticeable. It even helped my dry skin. Literally the only thing I can complain about with this product (besides the price) is the smell. I can’t quite describe the scent, but it’s definitely nearing rancid. Thankfully, you get used to it after a few minutes.

Well, I guess I’m just going to have to surrender and start investing more in Sunday Riley. This is a dark day for my wallet.

Have you tried this product or something else from Sunday Riley? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Ouai Haircare

I’ve been trying to take better care of my hair. I know I dye it too often, so I’m really trying to minimize the amount of heat that I use on my hair. I typically shampoo and condition at night and then apply some product for either frizz or smoothness or shine and then I let it air dry. I’m still looking for the perfect products to use, so I was excited when Sephora sent me some Ouai Haircare to try. These products retail for between $12-40 and it seems like there’s a product here for just about anyone.

First, I used the volumizing shampoo and conditioner. They felt great on my hair and didn’t weigh it down at all. Best of all, my hair felt very clean without feeling stripped. Now, they weren’t absolutely fantastic or transformative, but they did seem like good haircare products. I was most impressed with the leave-in conditioning spray though which really enhanced the look of my dry ends. Using it post-shower while my hair was still wet allowed it to absorb without making my hair look greasy. I’m glad I got a bigger sample of the leave-in conditioner because I’m really loving it, and I think I’ll probably purchase it when the sample runs out.

Have used Ouai haircare? If so, be sure to tell me what you thought in the comment section!

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer

Recently, I was picking some things up at the drugstore, when a stunning pink glossy lip product caught my eye. It was on sale, so I just had to have it, and that’s how I ended up trying the Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer which retails for about $5 at select drugstores.

First, this is more of a liquid lipstick than a gloss even though it is very much packaged like a gloss. It is extremely opaque so the color you see is the color you’ll get on your lips with just one swipe. Still, it was easy to apply and faded pretty evenly throughout the day. It wasn’t messy at all and didn’t spread out while I ate a full meal. There’s minimal transfer, but it’s easy to reapply if needed.

Overall, I thought this was such a great, affordable product. It’s easy to apply, inexpensive, long-lasting, non-drying, and gorgeous! The only thing I didn’t care for was the scent. It very much smells like paint, which is a bit off-putting until you get used to it. Still, I was very impressed by this product, and I think I’ll have to pick up some more shades!

Caudalie Energizing and Smoothing Eye Cream

I seem to always have dark circles under my eyes. I’m sure part of it is genetic (as an aunt so rudely pointed out once as she traumatized my 16-year-old self), but it’s probably also caused by lack of sleep and not drinking enough water. Anyway, I’m obsessed with religiously applying eye cream, and I’m always trying new ones. Recently, I purchased the Caudalie Energizing and Smoothing Eye Cream. This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $39.

While I love Caudalie, I’m not loving this product. It’s main ingredient is Vitamin C, which is great for brightening. However, after about a month of using this product, I’ve seen very little difference in my under eye region. My dark circles look about the same, but this also does not seem to smooth the area at all. It’s not even a teeny bit nourishing or moisturizing, so it just doesn’t fill in and saturate the area. Essentially, there seems to be very little difference when I use this vs. when I don’t use this when it comes to makeup application.

Overall, I found this to be a pretty disappointing eye cream. I’ve used much better eye creams that were much cheaper from the drugstore. So, I guess it’s back to my quest to find the holy grail of eye creams.

Do you have a favorite eye cream for moisturizing and combatting dark circles? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!
