Fashion Friday: Statement Necklaces

Statement necklaces are making a big comeback right now. It seems like everywhere I look, I’m finding more and more unique designs for statement necklaces. They truly come in all shapes and sizes now. From the extremely oversized to the mildly avant garde, statement necklaces are a great way to take a risk when it comes to fashion. While it may be scarier to wear a really whimsical dress or top, there’s something much easier about trying dramatic jewelry because it’s still such a smaller scale risk.

The photo above shows some of my newest statement necklaces. They are all very different, but I’ve found occasions for wearing them all. I bought all of these on Amazon. As I was shopping on Amazon, I was so pleased by the variety of styles and price points. It’s a great way to find some eclectic jewelry pieces. These cost between $8 and $23 a piece, which just can’t be beat.

However, if you’re more interested in seeing the jewelry in person before you purchase (which is totally reasonable), I feel like these are literally everywhere anyway: department stores, specialty boutiques, thrift stores, even Target and TJ Maxx. Whether you want to spend $12 or $2000, there’s a statement necklace option for your budget.

As I was visiting my parents the other day, I was talking to my mom about statement necklaces when my dad interrupted with the question, “What statement are you trying to make?” I thought about this for a while before answering, “I guess I’m just saying, ‘Look at Me!'”

While he was amused with my answer, I’ve recently been thinking that this is only half of the truth. Yes, statement necklaces are noticeable and are great for obtaining attention, but they are also an interesting way to express yourself. They’re wearable art. The intricate metalwork and combination of embellishments are sometimes like sculptures.

Anyway, these are just some of my thoughts about statement necklaces. Is this a trend you want to try? Do you have a favorite place to shop for statement necklaces? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

The Big Re-brand

Hi Everyone!

You may have noticed that Cincy Couture has recently undergone some changes. What started as a tiny beauty blog is growing into something more exciting. While this website will still remain a blog, we’re expanding into a monthly magazine as well (publishing details are still to come, but if you’re an aspiring fashion journalist, there will be many options for collaboration!)

With this new global outlook comes another change – a name change! “Cincy Couture” is where we started (small and in Cincinnati) but we wanted a name that would better reflect who we’re connecting with – fashionistas from all over the world. So, from now on, we’ll be called “Haute Couture Society.”

Thanks to everyone who has connected with Cincy Couture. We’re not disappearing, we’re just evolving. As we enter this period of continued transition, we’ll still be posting lots of reviews, but starting in January of 2019, we’ll have even more to offer with the launch of our magazine!

Trend Alert: Off-the-Shoulder

Spring and summer are seasons filled with fun fashion trends. One that I’m really loving right now is the Off-the-Shoulder look (and the hybrid cold-shoulder tops). Here are my favorite picks from New York & Company:

First up, we have the Floral Ruffled Cold-Shoulder Top, which retails for $44.95 (but is currently on sale for $24.99). I love the color of this one, plus the pop of color from the floral design is really cute. Best of all, I love the ruffles, which are a fun twist on this trend.

Next up, we have the Black Stripe Off-the-Shoulder Top, which retails for $42.95. I love the bohemian vibe from this top and the whimsical fringe detailing. Plus, the stripes look super slimming!

Here we have the Flounced Cold-Shoulder Blouse, which retails for $44.95 (but is on sale right now for $26.97). I love the sweeping romantic feel of this top. Also, the white is perfect and can be paired with any fun patterned skirt or pants.

Next, we have this bold Cold-Shoulder Halter Blouse, which retails for $44.95 (but is on sale for $26.97). Not only is the color amazing, but the cut of the neckline is fantastic. I love the combination of the halter and off-shoulder trends here.

Finally, we have my very favorite pick of the bunch: the Floral & Stripe Cold-Shoulder Blouse, which retails for $49.95 (but is on sale for $29.97). This pattern is just adorable, and the structure of the top looks forgiving for curvy gals like me.

How do you feel about this trend? It something you’d want to rock? Feel free to let me know in the comment section!

Trending Pattern: Gingham

Gingham isn’t just for picnic tablecloths anymore. It’s a major trending pattern for Spring 2018! So many brands and stores are promoting this fun print right now, so I wanted to share my favorite picks if you want to give this one a try.

First, we have the Gingham Bi-Stretch Racer-Neck Sheath Dress from Banana Republic. It retails for $128 but is currently on sale for $90! I am in love with the structure of this dress, especially the cut of the neck-line and the change in pattern around the waist. This looks so slimming and would be perfect for the office.

For a subtler bit of gingham, you could try the Gingham Knotted Crossover Slide which retails for $98 from Banana Republic. This is such a cute sandal, and I love that they’re backless, have a teeny boost of a heel, and have that interesting knot by the open toe.

If you’re feeling bold, there’s always the Gingham Vented Tie-Cuff Top from Banana Republic. It’s usually $88, but it’s now on sale for $33.99. The tie embellishments on the cuffs of the sleeves are fun and daring, and the larger print is also sure to stand out.

Lastly, we have a fun pink option: the Gingham Medium Envelope Pouch from Banana Republic. This was originally $58 but has been marked down to $23.99. Of course, I love the color, but it’s also such a nice sized clutch.

Are you loving the gingham trend? Be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comment section!

Trending: Espadrilles

I am loving this warm weather because I get to wear sandals every day! Recently, I was browsing some shoe stores, and I realized that there’s another shoe trend happening right now: espadrilles. I’ll be honest, I don’t usually love the look, so this is probably not the trend for me, but I did find three options from Steve Madden that I would actually wear:

First, we have the Steve Madden Brussel Espadrille Wedge which retails for $59.99 at DSW. I love the contrast between the black and the beige here. The wedge is also pretty high, which is perfect for me.

Next, we have this lovely lavender number: the Steve Madden Lesko Espadrille Flat. This one retails for $54.99 at DSW. I love the color, the cute detail of the holes in the front half of the shoe, and the heel-hugging strap. It’s a nice structured shoe that’s perfect for spring and summer.

Finally, we have the Steve Madden Talula Espadrille Wedge Sandal. This one retails for $59.99 at DSW, and it’s a fun neutral option. The beige tones will make it look like a natural extension of the legs, which is a good way to create an optical illusion of longer, more toned legs (because wedge heels make your calves flex constantly).

The more I look at these, the more I’m coming around to the espadrille trend. I think I might have to actually get some!

What do you think of this trend? Would you rock some espadrilles? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

All About Jumpsuits!

Jumpsuits are so in right now! I really wish I could pull them off, but I’ll never be able to (since I’m curvy and 5’2″). Still, that doesn’t mean a girl can’t dream. Here are some of the jumpsuits I would definitely rock if I was tall and willowy:

All of these are available for purchase from New York & Company. A lot of them are on sale for about $30, and none of them are over $80.

Do you rock a jumpsuit? How do you feel about this trend? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Trend Alert: Blue Jewelry

I used to wear a lot of jewelry, but I just haven’t as much lately. I’m not entirely sure why, but I suspect I’m getting lazier or I just lost interest when I stopped wearing my engagement ring. So, recently, I was browsing Nordstrom‘s website for inspiration, and I found a major trend in jewelry: the color blue! Now, I’m not really into the color blue (I think because my eyes are green, I just gravitate towards greens and purples instead), but I wanted to share some of my favorite picks:

Would you wear this trend or do you prefer different types of jewelry? Do you tend to wear the same jewelry or do you like to change it up? Be sure to let me know in the comments section! As for me, I’m going to try to wear at least one piece of jewelry daily and see if I can get back into it again.

Trend Alert: Rounded Sunglasses

The sun has been out this week! I love this warmer weather, but it occurred to me that I have officially broken every pair of sunglasses I own. I decided to check out what trend appears to be in full-force this season, and it looks like the rounded and aviator-styles are trending right now! For inspiration, I found a few options (all available from Nordstrom). I’m not sure how well this style will suit my face shape (round/heart), but I might take these pictures as inspiration and find a cheaper version to try for a while to see if they grow on me.

Do you like this trend, or do you prefer a different shape for sunglasses? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Wishlist: Rebecca Minkoff

I feel like every season I end up buying a new purse. I haven’t done so yet for Spring 2018, but I have been looking for what I might want. I was browsing Nordstrom, and I found this beauty: the Rebecca Minkoff Large Bree Leather Satchel. It’s definitely at the top of my Spring wishlist now!

This bag retails for $345, so I’m thinking it will have to remain on the wishlist and not become a part of my reality anytime soon. I have already splurged a lot for graduation, and I just can’t justify any more! Still, I wanted to share this item because it signifies a trend in purses that I’ve seen a lot of this season: strict structure.

A lot of bags right now are very square or rectangular like this one. The structure is pretty classic. And a lot of these bags are oversized too (but remember – the bigger the bag is, the smaller your hips look!)

Another trend for Spring is solid colors. A lot of accessories have been solid this year instead of patterned. Sure, we’ve seen lots of fun patterned dresses, but largely the accessories have remained more neutral and chic.

I guess I’ll have to see if I can find a cheaper dupe for this at TJ Maxx or Gabes!

Have you purchased a new bag for Spring? Be sure to give me all the details in the comment section!
