Caudalie Glycolic Peel

I’ve had a few experiences with at-home chemical peels, and mostly they’ve been unpleasant. My skin is pretty sensitive, but my hormonal acne responds really well to the AHA found in most DIY chemical peels. Still, a lot of chemical peels are quite abrasive on the skin and end up creating more problems than they solve. Still, I decided to try the Caudalie Glycolic Peel which is a 10-minute mask with a lot of AHA to exfoliate the skin and slough off the top layer of skin over time. This product can be purchased at Sephora and similar retailers for $39.

I really love this product! It’s so gentle compared to similar products. I can put this on my skin and leave it on for more than the 10 minutes it suggests and there will still be no burning or redness. It’s extra gentle but still effective.

I’ve been using it two or three times a week for about a month now, and I’ve already seen a huge difference in the clarity and texture of my skin! While it didn’t quite get rid the hormonal acne that comes right before my period, it did a great job of minimizing my pores and improving my complexion during most of the month. My skintone looks more even and some of my acne scars even seem less noticeable.

Another benefit is the scent. Mostly, it doesn’t really have a scent, which is great. A lot of times, AHA creams have a very strong, unpleasant odor (like the Herbivore Blue Tansy mask).

Overall, I’m just thrilled with this product. I’m trying to make sure I don’t overuse it and just stick to the recommended two or three times a week. But so far, so good! I can see a great improvement in my skin and I’m hoping this continues.

Have you tried this product or any other at-home chemical peel? Be sure to tell me about your experience in the comment section!

Burt’s Bees BB Cream

There are days when I just don’t want to wear a heavy, full-coverage foundation. On these days, I try to use a BB Cream which has more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. BB Creams typically have some skincare benefits in addition to their color, and they almost always have some SPF too. Recently, I was able to try the Burt’s Bees BB Cream, which costs about $15 at Target and similar retailers.

Now, this one only comes in three shades, which is a bummer: light, light/medium, and medium. At first, I went for the light one because I’m pretty pale and typically can’t use anything that remotely resembles a medium shade. When I used the light version of this product, I thought the product was awful. It appeared to be the appropriate shade for a ghost and just wouldn’t blend in! However, after I’d given up on this product, I read several posts from other bloggers about how the light/medium shade just seems like a completely different product and is perfect for even very pale gals like me. So, I gave it another shot and bought the light/medium, and I’m so glad I did!

The light/medium version looks seamless once blended into my skin. Coverage-wise, it’s a light coverage that’s buildable to almost a medium coverage. It does a fantastic job at evening out my skintone, but it won’t cover my blemishes (I still need a concealer for that!) It also has some sun protection at 15 SPF and a bit of moisturizer worked in there.

The finish of this product is pretty great too. It’s hydrating enough that my skin doesn’t look dry, but it’s not so hydrating that I look oily or excessively dewy. I love that it’s a semi-matte finish. Honestly, I often don’t even need a finishing powder with it.

Overall, I’m so glad I gave this one another try. This BB cream is nourishing, has great coverage for this type of product, is affordable, and is 98.9% natural. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this shade!

Allure Beauty Box August 2018

The Allure Beauty Box for August 2018 has arrived! This is one of my favorite beauty box subscription services. For just $15 a month, you’ll get deluxe samples and some full-sized beauty products. I love that it’s a blend of drugstore and luxury products too.

This month’s box came with some really great stuff!

First off, we have the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet which retails for $39. This is a product I’ve used and reviewed before. It’s a fantastic lightweight moisturizer that is just perfect for sensitive skin. I highly recommend it!

Next, we have the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner which retails for $22. This is a cult favorite, but I haven’t tried it yet. I really hope it lives up to the hype.

I also received the Laritzy Cosmetics Light Stix in Halo which retails for $24. I had never heard of this brand before, but so far this has been a really great highlighter stick that blends so smoothly.

Another favorite that I’ve already reviewed is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask which retails for $20 and is worth every penny. It’s the best intensive balm I have ever used!

Next up is the Nexxus Keraphix Damage Healing Shampoo and Conditioner which retail for $17.99 a piece. I have damaged hair from too much heat and processing with dye, so I’m excited to try these for sure!

Lastly, I received a $30 off coupon for Breda, a niche watch retailer I had never heard of before. I’ve spent some time browsing their website, and there are some great options, although I’m not sure if I’ll end up getting one.

What do you think of these products? Have you tried any of them before? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

St. Tropez One Night Only Gloss

I have given up on getting a tan. Over the years, I’ve realized that I must be at least a quarter vampire because really nothing can make me look less cadaverous. I literally repel the sun (I don’t even burn!) Still, sometimes I find myself desiring to look a bit less ghostly, so I was excited when I received a sample of the St. Tropez One Night Only Gloss. This product can be purchased from Sephora and similar retailers for $25.

I have tried self-tanner before. It’s so hard to get even, it always fades in strange ways, and it has a propensity to turn me either orange or yellow. This product, however, isn’t actually self-tanner. It’s a bronze gloss that washes off and doesn’t stain your skin or clothes. Unfortunately, this one was still not a winner for me.

I was glad that I did not look orange with this product, but I also didn’t look bronzed either. It took a huge amount of product to make a difference, and after using a bunch, at best I looked really shiny with a bit of bronze glitter mixed in. The product did smell like plastic though, so I didn’t like how I smelled after I used so much of it.

I will admit that it did not transfer, but that could be because there was very little tint to transfer. Keep in mind, I’m extremely pale, so I imagine that most people could use a ton of this product and not see any difference at all.

I think that this gloss might do a good job at enhancing an existing tan, but it’s not going to do anything to create the illusion of one.

Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask

I’m such a sucker for a face mask. They feel luxurious, but they also pack a powerful punch of skincare benefits in one concentrated treatment. Recently, I tried the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Rescue Mask. This product retails at Sephora for $62 (with a mini version available for $25).

I loved this mask! According to its product description, it’s supposed to help with: dullness, rough texture, uneven tone, dryness, and congestion. I can honestly say that it does what it claims. Using this mask a few times a week has definitely improved the overall state of my skin. My acne was reduced and my skin looked smoother for sure! It’s definitely worth the price. It’s also packed with some great skincare ingredients like seaweed, red algae, and lotus flower. I can’t believe that a mask so gentle on the skin can give such great results too. I highly recommend this one!

Have you tried this one or do you have a face mask that’s great for acne? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Degree MotionSense Deodorant

I tend to wear a lot of black. What can I say – it’s classic and slimming! There’s nothing worse than getting white streaks of deodorant on a black garment. We all have to wear deodorant, but no one wants to see it on their clothes! Thankfully, I’ve found Degree MotionSense Deodorant. This is available at most drugstores for under $4.

This is a fantastic antiperspirant. It keeps everything dry, smells amazing, and doesn’t leave any white streaks on my black clothes. It truly lasts all day (although the 48 hour protection advertised seems pretty impossible for any deodorant!)

The scent pictured is “Pure Rain” and it’s a wonderful neutral scent. I also really love the scent “Sexy Intrigue” which has warm undertones of vanilla, jasmine, and amber. It doesn’t go with all of my perfumes though. I don’t care for the “Shower Fresh” scent which smells too baby powdery for my tastes.

Do you have a favorite deodorant? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Soap&Glory Scrub of Your Life

Exfoliation is a great skincare step because it removes layers of dead skin to reveal a fresh, glowing complexion. There are many ways to exfoliate, the gentlest being to just rub a damp washcloth across your body, but sometimes you need something with a bit more grit. Thanks to my bestie, I decided to try the Soap&Glory Scrub of Your Life, and I’m so glad I did. It’s only $10.99, which is well worth it!

It’s important not to over-exfoliate or use products that are too harsh for the skin. Thankfully, this one is the perfect strength for my sensitive skin. Once or twice a week, I use this all over my body in the shower (but not my face – that skin is more sensitive and is better exfoliated with a light acid peel and a washcloth).

This is the perfect addition to an at-home spa day because it smells and feels luxurious, but it’s also just fantastic at smoothing skin and removing those pesky dead skin cells! If you’re looking for a great body exfoliator, I highly recommend this one!

Skintimate 2-in-1 Shave Cream & Skin Conditioner

I hate shaving, but it’s a necessary evil. Unfortunately, I have pretty sensitive skin and am prone to razor burn on my legs. Recently, I was really excited to try the Skintimate 2 in 1 Shave Cream & Skin Conditioner which promised silky, smooth, hairless skin for only $4 –  but this turned out to all be a lie!

I hate bashing a product. I much prefer listing pros and cons. However, the only pro I can think of with this product is that it did smell really nice, and the cons are overwhelming. The consistency of the product is very thin and will not lather. This means, you have to use a whole lot of product to cover your legs. But the very worst part of using this product is that I had TONS of razor burn afterwards and lots of little nicks. Still, like a masochist, I persisted and tried it a few more times so I could report back.

I can’t blame the razor because I started shaving one armpit and leg with this and then I’d use a regular, foaming shaving cream for the other half of me. Every time, the foaming side was just fine and the side that used this product was itchy and bleeding.

I’m just so disappointed in this product. It is not a good shaving cream and it did not leave my skin feeling “conditioned” or moisturized. I definitely still needed a lotion afterwards. Do yourself a favor and save your $4 for literally any other shaving cream!

Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks

I’m obsessed with the skin underneath my eyes. I want to avoid crow’s feet as long as possible, so I’m very diligent about eye cream, sunscreen (also, avoiding the sun), plus not tugging at the skin when removing eye makeup. I’m always excited when I’m sent new eye products, and recently I had the chance to try the Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks. You can get 6 pairs of these single-use masks for $25 at Sephora and similar retailers.

My first impression of this product is that the size is ridiculous. The pads are way too big for the undereye area, so I had to maneuver them really carefully to get them on the skin underneath my eyes without them getting too close to my actual eye. This was extra difficult since they were so big and bulky.

I was, however, pleased that they really stayed in place. You’re supposed to keep them on for about 10-15 minutes. I left them on for about 20-25, and they never fell off as I did some work around the apartment. Other eye masks I’ve tried were so slimy and weird that I had to recline with my head back the entire time to keep them from falling off, so this was a welcome change.

In terms of results, I was a bit underwhelmed. My undereye area seemed a bit more moisturized afterwards, but that was about it. It contains lavender and aloe to soothe the undereye, but I felt like a lot of eye creams I use depuff better than this. There’s also hyaluronic acid for moisture and anti-aging effects, but that’s something you’d need to track over time, and I’m not sure this would be the best everyday product when there are plenty of great eye creams with hyaluronic acid that would be more affordable for daily use.

Overall, I definitely won’t be purchasing these, but I do think they could be a fun addition for a girls’-night-in spa party since the gold foil looks pretty fancy!

Pacifica Kale Detox Cleanser

I rarely have strong feelings about the cleansers that I use. They all seem to mostly do the same things: remove makeup and clean the skin. Some do very little, and some are so heavy that they take too much out of the skin. Finally, I’ve found a great one that’s also inexpensive and gentle on skin: the Pacifica Kale Detox Cleanser. This product is available at Target and online for jut $10.

I’ve been using this cleanser for a few months now, and I really love it. It’s so gentle but leaves my skin feeling really clean. It cleans without stripping too much of the essential, natural oils that the skin makes. I’ve also noticed my acne has been improving, and while I can’t prove it’s caused by this product, at least I know this product won’t make acne worse. I use this as both a morning and evening cleanser. It does a great job at removing makeup.

There are so many great ingredients in this product. It contains clay, kale, coconut water, and aloe vera, which explains how it is great for sensitive skin but still manages to clean so well. For eco-conscious readers, you’ll also be pleased to hear that this container is recyclable, and the product itself is not tested on animals and is completely vegan.

I think I’ve finally found a favorite cleanser! I’ll be sure to repurchase this one when it runs out!
