Fashion Friday: Chelsea28 Versatile Dress

I think that versatility is so important when it comes to fashion. I like things that I can both dress up and play down depending on the occasion. So, when I was shopping online on Nordstrom’s website, I was thrilled to see this amazing dress: the Chelsea28 Crepe Fit & Flare Dress. This dress retails for $139 but is currently on sale for $83.40.

There are so many reasons to love this dress. First, it’s a generally flattering shape. The fit of the waistline plus the flare of the skirt is sure to be slimming. I’m also pretty self-conscious about my upper arms, and the ruffle in this sleeve would be a good way to sort of mask that area in a flattering way.

This dress is also one that could be worn in a variety of settings: the office, a casual cocktail party, a date, even an outdoor wedding. You’re sure to have lots of opportunities for wear with a dress like this.

So, how do you feel about this dress? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask

Hi, my name is Tiffany, and I’m a maskaholic. I might inadvertently be on a personal quest to try every face mask on the market because it seems like I just keep reviewing them! Face masks are a very potent part of skincare and can have immediate effects, so I just adore them. Recently, I had the opportunity to try the Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask. This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $28.

I absolutely love this mask! It’s so versatile and gentle that it works for all skin types. It has rose clay to clean the pores, willow herb for clarity, and jojoba beads for exfoliating. This is a one-stop skincare regimen dream! After using this mask a few times, my skin looked a bit clearer and was noticeably softer and smoother. I can’t wait to see the effects as I continue to use this product!

I’m loving this sample, and it’s pretty much gone, so I’ll definitely have to purchase the full-size version soon! Origins is a mostly natural brand, so it’s certified Sephora Clean. It’s also free of nasty things like parabens and sulfates.

Have you tried this mask? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comment section!

Burt’s Bees Herbal Complexion Stick

Well, I may have just turned 27, but my acne seems to still be sticking around. While it’s much better than it was in my late teens and early twenties, I still need to keep a spot treatment around for certain times of the month. Recently, I decided to try a more natural alternative to combatting acne: the Burt’s Bees Herbal Complexion Stick which is sold at Target and similar retails for about $8.

I really love this product! The tea tree oil is a natural way to fight acne, and I find that this one does a great job at working pretty fast. As is true with most spot treatments, it’s a bit drying, so I try to use it just in the essential areas where blemishes are trying to emerge. This product also includes willow bark extract which fights acne by unclogging pores.

Burt’s Bees is a nearly natural brand, and this product is 99.9% natural (which is good enough for me!) I love that it uses natural ingredients, is effective at fighting acne, and has such an affordable price tag! I definitely can see myself purchasing this one over and over again.

Have you tried this product or do you have a favorite spot treatment? Feel free to let me know in the comment section!

Smashbox Primers

Smashbox was one of the brands that seemed to convince the makeup world that we really did need to be wearing primers. I remember when I first used their Original Primer which literally blurred my imperfections. I was hooked! Recently, I received this cool sample of Smashbox Primers, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to discuss the different types of primers. These are sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $15 – $50 (mostly depending on the size of the container).

First, there’s the Golden-Hour Glow Radiance Primer, which has some sparkle to really enhance a dull complexion. This would be a great option for people with dry skin but not aging skin where the shimmer might settle into the face’s nooks and crannies.

Then, we have the Smooth + Blur Original Primer, which was the first primer I used years ago. It really coats the skin to create a smooth base for makeup. It does tend to feel a bit heavy, but I love the finish it gives my skin.

Next, there’s the 8-Hour Oil + Shine Control Minimize Pores Primer, which is ideal for oily skin. This is a more mattifying primer that combats oil and shine all day long.

Finally, there’s the Super Lightweight Smooth + Blur Primer, which is a lighter version of the original primer. For anyone who feels the original is too heavy on their skin (which is likely people with combination/oily skin), this is a great version that still smooths everything and blurs imperfections. With the current state of my skin, this is definitely the winner for me!

MAC Lipstick: Ruby Woo

It’s starting to feel truly Autumnal in Cincinnati, and I am so excited! This is my very favorite season. It always puts me in the mood for soup, knitting, cardigans, and…red lipstick. There’s something about cooler seasons that causes people to wear heavier makeup, and I’m no exception. Autumn and Winter are the months where I typically wear bolder lip colors like reds and berries. Recently, I received one of the most iconic red lipsticks on the market: MAC Ruby Woo. This product is sold from MAC stores and select retailers for $18.50.

There’s a reason that this lipstick has become iconic – it’s very easy to wear. MAC lipsticks are long-lasting without causing too much dryness. They’re extremely opaque and easy to apply. Also, there’s a great blue undertone to this red which will enhance the whiteness of your teeth. Now, I’ll admit that this one probably works better on cooler skintones because of the hint of blue. Thankfully, that works well for me. The finish is also very matte, which just makes this look super chic with some vintage pin-up vibes. This is definitely one of my favorite red lipsticks!

Have you tried this one or do you have a different favorite red lipstick? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Fashion Friday: Badgley Mischka

Welcome to another Fashion Friday. Today, I wanted to share a really awesome new purchase with you: these Badgley Mischka pumps! This is one of my favorite brands – they have amazing shoes, dresses, and handbags – but unfortunately, they’re not super affordable. That’s why I love Poshmark so much! With Poshmark, you can buy and sell new and gently used designer items. Sometimes, you can find amazing deals (like these $295 shoes that are in almost pristine condition, which I bought for only $30).

One of the reasons that I love the brand Badgley Mischka is that their general aesthetic seems to suit me. Structurally, their shoes/handbags/clothes are all very classic and elegant. However, they’re never boring and almost always contain a bit of sparkle. I’ve been wanting to actually own something from this brand for a really long time, so I’m thrilled to now call these shoes mine!

Is this a brand you love too, or do you have a Poshmark experience to share? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Caudalie Glycolic Peel

I’ve had a few experiences with at-home chemical peels, and mostly they’ve been unpleasant. My skin is pretty sensitive, but my hormonal acne responds really well to the AHA found in most DIY chemical peels. Still, a lot of chemical peels are quite abrasive on the skin and end up creating more problems than they solve. Still, I decided to try the Caudalie Glycolic Peel which is a 10-minute mask with a lot of AHA to exfoliate the skin and slough off the top layer of skin over time. This product can be purchased at Sephora and similar retailers for $39.

I really love this product! It’s so gentle compared to similar products. I can put this on my skin and leave it on for more than the 10 minutes it suggests and there will still be no burning or redness. It’s extra gentle but still effective.

I’ve been using it two or three times a week for about a month now, and I’ve already seen a huge difference in the clarity and texture of my skin! While it didn’t quite get rid the hormonal acne that comes right before my period, it did a great job of minimizing my pores and improving my complexion during most of the month. My skintone looks more even and some of my acne scars even seem less noticeable.

Another benefit is the scent. Mostly, it doesn’t really have a scent, which is great. A lot of times, AHA creams have a very strong, unpleasant odor (like the Herbivore Blue Tansy mask).

Overall, I’m just thrilled with this product. I’m trying to make sure I don’t overuse it and just stick to the recommended two or three times a week. But so far, so good! I can see a great improvement in my skin and I’m hoping this continues.

Have you tried this product or any other at-home chemical peel? Be sure to tell me about your experience in the comment section!

CLE Melting Lip Powder

I love trying new, weird products! It seems like the makeup industry is constantly evolving, and so there are always new things to try. Recently, I was sent something I had never heard of before: the CLE Melting Lip Powder. This product retails for $20 online.

The concept of this product is that it is a powder lipstick that melts onto your lips to form a long-lasting color. It contains vitamin E to condition the lips as well. I was very intrigued to try this one!

First, it was actually very easy to apply. It has a doe-foot applicator that coats the lips pretty evenly with the product. The lipstick is very opaque and just one swipe will be enough. It was also a very pretty rose shade that went well with my complexion.

Unfortunately, from the moment I put it on, I knew this was not going to be the product for me. Despite the inclusion of the vitamin E, it was exceptionally drying. My lips felt coated with powder (which, obviously, they were – but that’s just not a pleasant feeling). As my morning continued, I felt more and more uncomfortable.

I will say that when I had a cup of coffee, there was very little transfer. However, when I ate lunch, a lot of the color on the inside of the lips rubbed off. It looked pretty bad, but at that point, I just decided to rub the rest off and then apply a balm instead of reapplying this to try to get a normal feeling back in my lips.

Overall, I just can’t recommend this product. It’s an interesting idea, but it’s very uncomfortable to wear. Plus, it didn’t actually perform better than a traditional longwear lipstick because it didn’t even last through a meal. I definitely won’t be purchasing this one, nor will I be using more of the one I was sent. I don’t even really feel comfortable giving it away to a friend because it was so uncomfortable to wear.

Have you tried a lip powder before? What was your experience? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Miss Dior Hair Mist

Today is a special day because it is my 27th birthday! To celebrate, I thought I’d share one of my favorite signature fragrances: Miss Dior. Recently, I purchased the Miss Dior Hair Mist from Sephora, which retails for $52. It’s a bit of a luxury since it’s only a 1 oz bottle, but I did get it in the Sephora sale, so it was 20% off!

I love the concept of a hair mist because I’m very short, and I feel that hair fragrance allows the scent to waft up. This scent is also a warm floral that seems perfect for any season. It contains bergamot which is one of my favorite fragrance notes, and it is not musky at all, so it retains a youthful quality.

Signature scents are fun because they’re like a calling card that people will associate with you. I’ve had a few signature scents in my life. It seems that as I evolve as a person, my fragrance interest also evolves. In high school, I wore Lucky You by Lucky Brand. It’s a very sweet, floral fragrance which kind of signified who I wanted to be at the time – flirty and playful. But in college, I wanted to evoke something else – I wanted to feel more mature but still be alluring. In some ways, I wanted to seem older than I was. During that period in my life, I wore Guilty by Gucci, a warmer scent with notes of amber and patchouli. Now, I think my interest in Miss Dior blends the two past scents in some way: it’s still warm and more mature, but it’s softer with its florals.

Do you have a signature scent? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Burt’s Bees BB Cream

There are days when I just don’t want to wear a heavy, full-coverage foundation. On these days, I try to use a BB Cream which has more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. BB Creams typically have some skincare benefits in addition to their color, and they almost always have some SPF too. Recently, I was able to try the Burt’s Bees BB Cream, which costs about $15 at Target and similar retailers.

Now, this one only comes in three shades, which is a bummer: light, light/medium, and medium. At first, I went for the light one because I’m pretty pale and typically can’t use anything that remotely resembles a medium shade. When I used the light version of this product, I thought the product was awful. It appeared to be the appropriate shade for a ghost and just wouldn’t blend in! However, after I’d given up on this product, I read several posts from other bloggers about how the light/medium shade just seems like a completely different product and is perfect for even very pale gals like me. So, I gave it another shot and bought the light/medium, and I’m so glad I did!

The light/medium version looks seamless once blended into my skin. Coverage-wise, it’s a light coverage that’s buildable to almost a medium coverage. It does a fantastic job at evening out my skintone, but it won’t cover my blemishes (I still need a concealer for that!) It also has some sun protection at 15 SPF and a bit of moisturizer worked in there.

The finish of this product is pretty great too. It’s hydrating enough that my skin doesn’t look dry, but it’s not so hydrating that I look oily or excessively dewy. I love that it’s a semi-matte finish. Honestly, I often don’t even need a finishing powder with it.

Overall, I’m so glad I gave this one another try. This BB cream is nourishing, has great coverage for this type of product, is affordable, and is 98.9% natural. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this shade!
