Dior Glow Palette

It’s no secret that I adore Dior! Whenever they have a new product, I immediately rush out to get it. Recently, they launched their backstage collection, and I was really excited to try the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette. This product will cost you $45 at Sephora and similar retailers.

So, first things first, this is NOT a contour palette. It’s not marketed as one either, but I know some people get confused when it comes to bronzers. To truly contour, you need an ashy-toned (preferably matte) bronze or brown shade. Anything with shimmer (like these shades) will make the hollows of the cheek look swollen rather than sunken. So, products like this one are designed to be applied just to the apples of the cheek (for color) or the highest part of the cheekbone (for highlight).

I was so impressed by these shades. They’re all really pretty and very pigmented. The top two shades are a white and a champagne highlighter. I was initially a bit scared of how white the white one was, but it blends so well and has a very luminous, ethereal finish. It wasn’t chalky or garish at all. The champagne one was lovely and added a nice glow without being too warm. The bottom two shades were blushes: one rosy and one bronze. They’re also really pigmented but blendable and will compliment most skin tones with a bold pop of color.

As far as texture goes, these are very smooth. However, they contain some rather chunky glitter, and I know that’s not what everyone prefers. However, I love this palette when I want to really stand out. It’s not the most neutral, daytime palette. This one is geared towards night drama instead!

Overall, I adored this palette, although I admit the price is a bit steep for something that’s a special occasion and not a daily palette (still, powders last a long time before they need replacing).

Is this one you’ve tried or are interested in trying? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section!

Maybelline Master Contour

I am such a sucker for contouring. I love the idea of making my cheek bones look higher and my nose look thinner with this fun makeup trick of creating highlights and shadows. I’ve used some high end products as my staples, but I thought I’d give a drugstore palette a go to see if it could stack up against the Sephora favorites. I decided to go with the Maybelline Master Contour Palette which comes with a blush, highlighter, and bronzer. This set can be purchased from Target or other drugstores for $9. Since I’m very pale, I purchased the palette in Light-Medium shades.

Overall, I was impressed by this product. The brush that it comes with is pretty much worthless, so I used my other brushes. While the texture of the powders was a little chalky and not as finely milled as I prefer, it did blend really well. The blush was a nice shade that had just the right amount of pigment and was easy to use for a natural finish. The highlighter was the star here, and I loved the light shimmer it gave me. The bronzer wasn’t bad. It could have used a bit more pigment, but it was very buildable so it still worked. If you’re on a budget, I would definitely give this palette a chance!

Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder – Iridescent

I have become so obsessed with shimmery highlighters. I used to be terrified of highlighters because I thought they’d make me look oily, but watching so many YouTube beauty tutorials have made me much braver about trying things, and this is one trend that I have grown to absolutely love! Recently, I splurged a little bit and finally bought the coveted Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Iridescent. This product can be purchased from Sephora for $38 and it is worth every single penny.

The texture of this powder is so amazing. It is silky and light. The shimmer itself is also very buildable, so you can layer as much or as little as you’d like. This shade in particular seems so versatile. It’s perfect for my pale skin, but I’ve seen many skin shades and tones pull this off. It’s just a glorious highlighter!

I apply my highlighter with a fan brush. This allows for a lighter touch, which is what I prefer because I would like to build it in layers instead of getting too much on at once. However, I will note that this powder is very light, so I have applied it with a blush brush a few times and it worked just as well that way.

Many of the products that I try and review end up shoved in a drawer somewhere before they either go bad or get given away to a friend. However, this is one product that I fully intend to use until every last speck is completely gone. I can’t say enough good things about this product! I’d heard so many great things about the Hourglass highlighters, but I had always assumed they were overhyped and not worth the price. I was wrong. They are worth more than the price! These can compete with any luxury brand on the market, and I’m so glad I gave them a try.
