Crest Gum & Enamel Repair Toothpaste

I’m a bit obsessed with dental health. It seems to be working because I’ve never had a cavity! Still, when I brush my teeth, I expect everything to feel wonderfully clean afterwards, which is why I’ve really been enjoying this latest product that was sent courtesy of Influenster: the Crest Gum & Enamel Repair Toothpaste. This product can be purchased at most grocery and drugstores for about $5.

I do tend to focus too much on whitening toothpastes instead of considering the whole mouth. I love that this toothpaste makes my teeth feel completely clean and gives me fresh breath while preventing cavities and gingivitis. This toothpaste packs a powerful punch as it deep cleans the whole mouth. I definitely recommend it, and I think I’ll buy the full size once this sample is all gone!

Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Tousling Mousse

Hair texture is a very individual thing. Some people have straight hair, and some people have curly hair, but most people have hair that is somewhere in between. My hair is mostly straight but it has a slight natural wave. When I curl it with heat, it doesn’t hold well, so I thought I’d look for a product that could work on its own to enhance the hair texture. I recently saw that Herbal Essences has re-released their Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Tousling Mousse. This product can be found at nearly any grocery or drugstore for about $4.

I used to use this product all the time before it disappeared, so I was so excited to see it again. Sure, it’s been reformulated, but I was excited all the same.

The first thing I noticed is that it smells different than the original product. The old version smelled AMAZING like African Violets. This one smells like Hibiscus. It’s still an okay scent, but I do miss the old scent, which I just adored.

The product still works well though! It’s a light mousse that I typically just use on wet hair, but it does give a bit more wave to my hair. My hair looks gently tousled with a bit more texture than usual when I use this product, and that’s exactly what I wanted. I really love this product. I just wish it still smelled like violets!

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer

Recently, I was picking some things up at the drugstore, when a stunning pink glossy lip product caught my eye. It was on sale, so I just had to have it, and that’s how I ended up trying the Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer which retails for about $5 at select drugstores.

First, this is more of a liquid lipstick than a gloss even though it is very much packaged like a gloss. It is extremely opaque so the color you see is the color you’ll get on your lips with just one swipe. Still, it was easy to apply and faded pretty evenly throughout the day. It wasn’t messy at all and didn’t spread out while I ate a full meal. There’s minimal transfer, but it’s easy to reapply if needed.

Overall, I thought this was such a great, affordable product. It’s easy to apply, inexpensive, long-lasting, non-drying, and gorgeous! The only thing I didn’t care for was the scent. It very much smells like paint, which is a bit off-putting until you get used to it. Still, I was very impressed by this product, and I think I’ll have to pick up some more shades!

Burt’s Bees Herbal Complexion Stick

Well, I may have just turned 27, but my acne seems to still be sticking around. While it’s much better than it was in my late teens and early twenties, I still need to keep a spot treatment around for certain times of the month. Recently, I decided to try a more natural alternative to combatting acne: the Burt’s Bees Herbal Complexion Stick which is sold at Target and similar retails for about $8.

I really love this product! The tea tree oil is a natural way to fight acne, and I find that this one does a great job at working pretty fast. As is true with most spot treatments, it’s a bit drying, so I try to use it just in the essential areas where blemishes are trying to emerge. This product also includes willow bark extract which fights acne by unclogging pores.

Burt’s Bees is a nearly natural brand, and this product is 99.9% natural (which is good enough for me!) I love that it uses natural ingredients, is effective at fighting acne, and has such an affordable price tag! I definitely can see myself purchasing this one over and over again.

Have you tried this product or do you have a favorite spot treatment? Feel free to let me know in the comment section!

OGX Bonding Plex Shampoo and Conditioner

I use a lot of heat when it comes to styling my hair, and this has resulted in quite a bit of damage and frizziness. While I have decided to try letting my hair air dry completely and using a styling cream for texture instead of using any sort of heat for a while, that still won’t correct past damage. Truly, nothing besides cutting off damaged hair is the real solution, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still try the occasional quick fix. That’s why I decided to try the OGX Bonding Plex shampoo and conditioner in order to see if my split ends can look a bit better until I can sneak away to the salon. This product is available at Walgreens and similar retailers for about $7 a piece.

First, I really love the scent of this product. It really smells like a salon, and the scent lingers too. This may not appeal to everyone because it’s a bit chemical-scented, but I really love it for some reason.

The real goal of this product is to improve the cuticle of the hair and bond split ends back together while protecting from future damage. I will say, when I use this product, my hair does feel smoother and softer. However, if I do blow dry my hair, my hair looks a bit frizzy. But if I use these and then let my hair air dry completely, I think the overall texture of my hair is improved.

I do wish that the shampoo was easier to lather. It feels like it takes a lot of product to get the ideal lather going.

Overall, this product is just okay. It makes my hair a bit better but not dramatically so. I like the scent, but that doesn’t make up for other performance issues like a lack of lather. I’m glad I gave it a try, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this one.

Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat

When doing an at-home manicure, it’s so important to use a base coat and a top coat. The base coat will protect your nails from staining if you’re using a dark color, and it will create a nice, smooth canvas for the nail varnish. The top coat will add some shine to the manicure and will extend the life of the manicure by preventing chipping. Recently, I was walking around Walgreens and I found the Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat for only $4, so I thought I’d give it a try.

I loved the concept of this product: why not simplify and have just one bottle that can do both jobs? Unfortunately, this one really fell flat for me.

My biggest complaint about this product is that it takes FOREVER to dry. Every time I used this product, I would try to be as patient as possible and let it dry for over half an hour. However, hours later, I would find strange smudges on the polish. I am not completely certain how this happened, but my theory is that the topcoat re-softens with heat, so you’re susceptible to smudges again after a hot shower or blow drying your hair or doing the dishes.

This has happened to me with other top coats as well, but it doesn’t happen with all of them (The Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat and the Seche Vite top coat are two of the best, in case you were wondering).

I was pleased with the level of shine that this top coat offers, but it did not seem to harden the nail or prevent chipping. I frequently still had same-day polish chips, which is just not manageable.

In terms of how this performed as a base coat, it was okay if you applied just a thin layer. It did smooth the nail and, even with very dark polish, there was no staining on the nail bed.

Overall, I was very disappointed with this product, and I won’t be repurchasing. However, I think this might be okay if applied to the nail by itself. After buffing the nail, this would add some shine to enhance a natural nail. It’s also an okay base coat, but I would not recommend this as a top coat over nail polish.

Sally Hansen Cuticle Massage Cream

Recently, I’ve been trying to take better care of my hands, especially the nail bed region. My cuticles get so dry and tear easily, so I wanted to try a product just for them. I ended up selecting the Sally Hansen Cuticle Massage Cream. This product is available at most drugstores and online for just $5.

First off, this product smells amazing. It’s fruity with top notes of apricot. That was definitely my favorite thing about the product. Other than that, I was a little disappointed. The formula felt so stiff, which surprised me. I was definitely expecting something creamier. As it was, it was a bit hard to use since you kind of have to dig in to get the product out. I suppose it wouldn’t be as difficult if you just wanted to rub your fingertip over it and use the light residue. That would definitely make the product last longer, but you also wouldn’t get as much moisturization power that way.

The product just didn’t moisturize as much as I had hoped. I’ve used cuticle oils in the past that worked much better, so maybe I should go back to that instead of using a cream like this one.

What do you use for your cuticles? I’d love to know! Feel free to tell me in the comment section.

Degree MotionSense Deodorant

I tend to wear a lot of black. What can I say – it’s classic and slimming! There’s nothing worse than getting white streaks of deodorant on a black garment. We all have to wear deodorant, but no one wants to see it on their clothes! Thankfully, I’ve found Degree MotionSense Deodorant. This is available at most drugstores for under $4.

This is a fantastic antiperspirant. It keeps everything dry, smells amazing, and doesn’t leave any white streaks on my black clothes. It truly lasts all day (although the 48 hour protection advertised seems pretty impossible for any deodorant!)

The scent pictured is “Pure Rain” and it’s a wonderful neutral scent. I also really love the scent “Sexy Intrigue” which has warm undertones of vanilla, jasmine, and amber. It doesn’t go with all of my perfumes though. I don’t care for the “Shower Fresh” scent which smells too baby powdery for my tastes.

Physician’s Formula The Healthy Lip

I love lipstick, but I tend to hate most longwear liquid lipsticks because they can be difficult to apply and very uncomfortable as they tend to really dry out the lips. It’s not a good look at all when you have patchy, flaky, cracked lips, and that seems to be the result of wearing too much liquid lipstick. However, on a whim I picked up The Healthy Lip from Physician’s Formula while I was grocery shopping, and I was so incredibly impressed! This product is available at select drugstores for just $8. Pictured below is “Vitamin Beet” but I loved it so much that I also picked up a true red called “Fight Free Red-icals.”

There are so many positive traits with this product. It’s opaque and easy to apply – just one little swipe and you’re good to go. The tear-shaped doe-foot applicator makes it easy to swipe along the natural curves of your lips, so the application is a cinch. The formula applies smoothly and evenly in just one coat.

The product wears so evenly throughout the day, although there seems to be a difference in wear depending on the shade. The berry shade I purchased fades more evenly and doesn’t seem to transfer as much when I’m eating versus the red shade that I purchased. I don’t know why reds are always messier! Still, I was pleased with both shades in how they wear because I only ever had to touch up when I had a full meal. Other that that, this would stay in place all day.

All-day wear is usually very drying in a liquid lipstick, but this one was so much better than I expected. While my lips felt a bit dry by the end of the day, it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. Best of all, my lips didn’t look dry. The formulation has a velvet finish, so it’s pretty matte but soft and comfortable.

The one big drawback that I have with this product is that the shade range is extremely limited. Of the 13 shades that they offer, 9 of them seem like a variant of berry. I would love for them to come out with some more colors in the future for sure.

Jordana Cosmic Glow Holographic Lip Gloss

It’s no secret that one of my vices would be buying new lip products. I have way more than a person ever needs, yet they keep catching my eye. The other day, I was walking around Walgreens and saw the Jordana Cosmic Glow Holographic Lip Gloss. It was mesmerizing and only $5, so I decided to give it a chance, having no expectations whatsoever.

img_2286

Truth time: I’ve always avoided this brand because it seemed cheap and I’d never read good reviews. But I knew I wasn’t going to care if a $5 lip gloss ended up sucking. Still, I was extremely impressed! I went with the shade “crystallized pink” which shows up as a sheer medium pink wash of color with some blue holographic sparkles (fun fact – blue and blue undertones make teeth look whiter!)

Overall, I actually loved this lip gloss. It was super easy to apply evenly with its doe-foot applicator and just a swipe or two provides enough coverage. It’s pretty but also kind of whimsical with the holographic/glittery finish. Texture-wise, I was so pleased that it was not sticky AT ALL. As for wear, it’s pretty typical for a gloss. The glossiness will fade within 2 or 3 hours, but it still left an even stain of light color which was nice.

I can’t believe how well this product performed for $5. I think I’ll actually repurchase it and get a few more shades to try soon!
