Shiseido Eyelash Curler

I sometimes dream of long, luxurious, perfectly curled eyelashes. Of course, what I have are lackluster and stick straight out. Because of this, I thought I’d try the Shiseido Eyelash Curler.

This eyelash curler is available at Sephora and similar retailers for $20. I must say that while this doesn’t make my eyelashes look perfect, it does make them significantly better. It’s a sturdy curler with a strong grip, and that makes a big difference. It also is shaped well and allows me to get really close to my lash line for the ideal curl. Overall, I’ve been really happy with this product. I would say it’s one of the best I’ve tried.

Have you tried this one or do you have a favorite eyelash curler? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Ciaté Fierce Flicks Precision Tip Liquid Liner

I love a dramatic cat eye, and this requires a fantastic liquid eyeliner if it’s going to last all day long and look even. My favorite is still Stila, but I’m always willing to try other brands to see how they compare. Recently, I had the chance to try the Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Precision Tip Liquid Liner. This product is $19 at Sephora and similar retailers.

Basically, the only thing I liked about this eyeliner was the name. “Fierce Flicks” is an adorable name. Everything else was a big disappointment.

First, the claim of a “precision tip” was sadly lacking. I found the tip to be too wide and not pointed enough to get a clean winged look. This might be fine if you’re just lining the rim of the upper eye, but it’s not precise enough for anything fancy.

The texture of the product was also strangely patchy. I had to go over the line so many time to try to get the shade even, and that’s something I don’t usually struggle with even when using drugstore eyeliners. Very disappointing!

Finally, this product never really dried down. It smeared a bit and parts of it flaked off and I needed to reapply throughout the work day. I hate being so overwhelmingly negative in a review, but I felt the need to be honest. I would avoid this eyeliner at all costs! Even if someone offers it to you for free, it’s just not worth the hassle.

Blogmas Day 10: Express Eye Makeup Remover Wipes

It’s day 10 of Blogmas! Today’s gift is another Sephora Australia exclusive: the Sephora Express Eye Makeup Remover Wipes. These can be purchased for $8 for a box of 20 individually wrapped wipes.

As far as makeup removers go, this one is okay. The wipes are very effective at removing eye makeup. However, I didn’t love the texture of the wipes. They are just a bit abrasive, which concerns me since they’re for use around the delicate eye area. I would say that the price and texture make this product not worth it. There are plenty of just as effective wipes that are gentler and cheaper (like the Neutrogena wipes!)

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

I’ve been paranoid about my under eye circles ever since an aunt of mine pointed them out when I was sixteen and told me, “They’ll never go away. They’ll just get darker the older you get.” This was kind of her to point out since every sixteen year old needs more insecurity in her life. Anyway, this started me on a quest to prove her wrong and I’ve invested in countless eye creams and concealers ever since. Recently, I was encouraged to try the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. I picked up the shade “Fair” from Target for $7 which is an awesome price.

This is by far one of the best under eye concealers I’ve ever used. It’s creamy and kind of dry which helps it to cover well and stay in place. It doesn’t sink into any lines underneath my eyes, and I don’t even need to use a setting powder with it (although, to be fair, I rarely need a setting powder under my eye). The coverage of this concealer is phenomenal and it is so incredibly easy to blend. You can blend it just as easily with your fingers as you can a beauty blender because of its texture.

My friend Katie mentioned that she uses this concealer on acne and other parts of her face as well, so I tried to give it a shot there too. It was still great! It covered even my peskiest zits and lasted for a fairly long time. I did find that applying it on parts of my face other than under my eye worked better with the beauty blender. I did need a setting powder over my acne bits, but that’s pretty normal for me.

Overall, I was blown away by this concealer. Not to sound like a snob, but I don’t try drugstore makeup on my face very often. This has definitely inspired me to try more though because I was just so impressed. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this over and over again, and I recommend this to anyone who wants something inexpensive but high coverage for their under eyes.

So, since I’m going to try more drugstore makeup, what do you think I should try? Please, leave your suggestions in the comment section!

Doucce Eye Shadow Quad

I’m not always adventurous when it comes to eye shadow, but recently I wanted to go for something more dramatic. I recently received the Doucce Eye Shadow Quad in #16: the Allure Special Edition. This quad can be purchased from their website for $35, which is very expensive for an eye shadow quad.

First, the pigmentation was really great. They are vivid and dramatic. The picture doesn’t do them justice as they all have some shimmer to them. I was really pleased with the full effect of these shadows, but I was disappointed in their texture. This is a very dry powder that is much harder to blend that Urban Decay shadows. For $35, I expect a better quality shadow. I will admit that it lasted all day and still looked great even after 10 hours of wear, but it just shouldn’t have been so hard to get my desired look. Overall, I liked this quad and I’ll definitely keep using it, but I would only recommend it to people who don’t mind blending a lot. There are definitely better quality shadows for better prices elsewhere.

Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover

I love dramatic eye makeup, but sometimes it is just a pain to remove it at the end of the day. Recently, I was able to try the Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover which can be purchased from Sephora for $11.

I use little cotton pads to apply this, and I’ve been pleased by how easily it removes my eye makeup. Even really stubborn mascara and black eyeliner is vanquished with this product. It doesn’t take much rubbing to get everything off, which is ideal. You definitely don’t want to rub your eyes unnecessarily because it can cause premature wrinkles and you run the risk of pulling out precious eyelashes.

My eyes can be kind of sensitive, especially during the summer with seasonal allergies. Still, this product has not caused me any irritation. It’s been very gentle but effective. I would definitely recommend trying it if you’re in the market for a strong eye makeup remover. I will admit, however, that I do typically prefer makeup removers that I can use on my whole face and not just my eyes, such as the delightful Clinique Take the Day Off Balm.

What’s your favorite eye makeup remover? Do you stick to the drugstore ones, or do you find that the high end ones are worth it? Please, let me know in the comments section.

Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water

Micellar water is a miracle in skincare. It is super gentle on the skin, but it is able to cleanse the skin of makeup and other things. You can even use it on eye makeup. I recently tried the Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water.  This can be purchased from Sephora for $28 for 6.7 oz.

This product does smell amazing! It’s a bit fruity. I also love that it doesn’t leave a filmy residue on the skin like some micellar waters do. Overall, this is a great product. It effortlessly removed my makeup and left my skin feeling clean and refreshed. That being said, though, I’ve used micellar waters that worked just as well that were significantly cheaper. My favorite micellar water is from Simple.  You can pick it up from Target or similar stores and get a whopping 13.5 oz bottle for only $9. That’s a pretty significant difference since the products do the same things. Sure, the Caudalie one smells better, but I don’t think that makes up for the price difference.

How do you remove your makeup at night? Do you use a micellar water or some other product?
