Dior Addict Lip Lacquer

I am a red lipstick fiend, especially in autumn and winter. I’m already looking through my lipstick collection and making sure I have one for every occasion. As I was looking, I found one that I’ve had a while but have never reviewed: the Dior Addict Lacquer in American Girl (a shade that has been discontinued!) This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $37 (and if you like this shade – I think that 877 Turn Me Dior is the closest current shade to this one).

I adore the original Dior Addict lipsticks – they are comfortable to wear and last most of the day. They are longwear with minimal dryness. However, the Lacquer version of the Dior Addict lipsticks dry out the lips even less than the original. I experience zero dryness with these and I still get an all-day or almost all-day color.

There is a small drawback to this Lacquer version of lipstick: it can be a bit messy. It’s as opaque as a layer of paint. Because of this, you’ll only need one coat – but you’ll need to be very careful when applying it. Also, it’s a bit wet in terms of texture but it never dries down completely. This means it is prone to smudging, especially if you’re eating something like a sandwich where you might open your mouth very wide.

That being said, I really like this lipstick. I’ve learned that it’s best to apply just a very thin layer to keep smudging to a minimum. Also, I just really love this bright cherry red shade, so I’m bummed that they’ve discontinued this particular shade. Thankfully, I’ve got a lot left though. The one I have has a satin finish, but a few of them have glitter finishes, so that’s probably what I’ll have to try next!

Have you tried this lip lacquer or another type of lacquer? How did it compare to traditional lipstick for you? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick

I often go for bold lipstick, but since I’ve been playing up my eyes recently, I’ve been trying to have more demure lips. Recently, I was going through my lipstick bag (which is overflowing again!) and I found this gem: the Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick in Taupe Beige. This product can be purchased at Sephora and similar retailers for $22.

I love that this is a perfect neutral. It never clashes with the rest of my makeup or any color of clothes I might choose to wear. It’s also a nice matte shade that sits comfortably on the lips and doesn’t dry them out. I wouldn’t say it’s very long-wearing since I’ll have to reapply it a few times throughout the day, but it’s so neutral that it’s just really easy to reapply.

Overall, I’m just loving this pretty neutral. I love that there’s a slight pink undertone that compliments my skintone, and it’s fantastic that this matte shade doesn’t settle into any lines on my lips or make my lips dry out.

Pretty Vulgar – Bury Them With a Smile Lipstick

I’m such a sucker for pretty packaging! Recently, as I browsing Sephora’s website, I came across the Bury Them With a Smile Lipstick from Pretty Vulgar and was just enamored with the fun name and adorable design on the lipstick tube. I couldn’t help myself – I just had to buy it. But I’m so glad I did! This product can be purchased from Sephora and similar retailers for $24.

Not only is this a fun lipstick to look at and carry around in your handbag, it actually performs really well too. I purchased the shade, “Darling, Be Daring,” which is a great cool-toned fuchsia. It applies pretty opaquely and very evenly in just one or two swipes. The finish is matte, and I’ve been so impressed by how this holds up throughout the day.

This is a long-wear lipstick, and it wears very well. There is minimal transfer when eating and drinking. After a big meal, you can tell that it’s faded a bit (and not completely evenly if you look closely at the inner portion of the lips), but it still looks pretty good after eating. Still, I tend to reapply after a meal, although I think I could get away with not reapplying and it would still be passable.

The product description of this lipstick claims to keep your lips moisturized with hydrating butters and oils, and I do disagree with this claim. While I’ve been pleased that it doesn’t seem to dry my lips out too much and never settles into any lines, it is certainly not moisturizing. My lips are definitely a bit dryer at the end of the day (as is normal for any long-wear lipstick) and I require a thicker balm in the evening to remedy this for the next day.

Overall, I’ve been really pleased with this lipstick. The shade is so pretty, and it’s been so easy to maintain throughout the day. I highly recommend this one!

Have you tried anything from Pretty Vulgar? If so, please let me know in the comment section. I don’t know much about the brand, and I’d love to try another of their products.

Physician’s Formula The Healthy Lip

I love lipstick, but I tend to hate most longwear liquid lipsticks because they can be difficult to apply and very uncomfortable as they tend to really dry out the lips. It’s not a good look at all when you have patchy, flaky, cracked lips, and that seems to be the result of wearing too much liquid lipstick. However, on a whim I picked up The Healthy Lip from Physician’s Formula while I was grocery shopping, and I was so incredibly impressed! This product is available at select drugstores for just $8. Pictured below is “Vitamin Beet” but I loved it so much that I also picked up a true red called “Fight Free Red-icals.”

There are so many positive traits with this product. It’s opaque and easy to apply – just one little swipe and you’re good to go. The tear-shaped doe-foot applicator makes it easy to swipe along the natural curves of your lips, so the application is a cinch. The formula applies smoothly and evenly in just one coat.

The product wears so evenly throughout the day, although there seems to be a difference in wear depending on the shade. The berry shade I purchased fades more evenly and doesn’t seem to transfer as much when I’m eating versus the red shade that I purchased. I don’t know why reds are always messier! Still, I was pleased with both shades in how they wear because I only ever had to touch up when I had a full meal. Other that that, this would stay in place all day.

All-day wear is usually very drying in a liquid lipstick, but this one was so much better than I expected. While my lips felt a bit dry by the end of the day, it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. Best of all, my lips didn’t look dry. The formulation has a velvet finish, so it’s pretty matte but soft and comfortable.

The one big drawback that I have with this product is that the shade range is extremely limited. Of the 13 shades that they offer, 9 of them seem like a variant of berry. I would love for them to come out with some more colors in the future for sure.

Have you tried this product, or do you have a favorite liquid lipstick? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Too Faced Melted Latex Lipstick Fail!

I love dramatic lipsticks, but they don’t all love me back! Recently, I was shopping online at Sephora and I saw that they had a sale on the Too Faced Melted Latex lipsticks. They were only $10, and I’ve had great luck with these before. I wanted to go for something really bold, so I went for the deep red shade “Bite Me.”

I was so looking forward to this one. I envisioned myself turning heads with my dramatic red/wine lips like a vintage movie starlet. Alas, that was not meant to be. When the lipstick arrived, I instantly knew something was wrong. I did receive the right shade, but instead of a reddish wine, it looked like a dark brown. Still, I paid $10 so I was going to give it a go.

I looked like a cartoon villain dressed up for Halloween. Not only was the color all wrong, but the opacity was terrible. It was a very uneven product and it took a lot of effort to make the color look evenly distributed. I wore it while shopping that night and I felt a lot of stares but not the kind I had hoped for.

The next day, I brought it to work. When things got slow, I went to the bathroom to try it on again, but my trusty coworkers assured me that it needed to be removed ASAP.

I did learn a few things from this experience though:

  1. Whenever possible, test a lipstick shade in person instead of just guessing based on the picture posted on the website.
  2. Sometimes things are on sale for a reason.
  3. Always have a backup lipstick in your purse when testing something so risky.

Not all makeup risks pan out, but it’s still fun to try sometimes. Still, this is a shade that’s getting tossed for sure!

Dior Addict Lip Lacquer Plump

It’s no secret that I love Dior lip products. Their Dior Addict lipsticks are my absolute favorite, so I always have to try their new lip products. In the recent Sephora sale, I picked up the Dior Addict Lip Lacquer Plump which retails for $37.

I’m actually not wowed by this product, which is kind of disappointing. I bought the shade Glitterati, which is a glittery nude shade, and I was disappointed by how minimal it looked. The glitter is not very noticeable and doesn’t last for very long. The nude shade is also pretty sheer, although that is kind of expected when you buy a “nude” shade. I guess I expected it to be more of a pink-nude, but it’s a real true nude. Overall, I would be okay with the shade if the glitter just popped a bit more.

Now, in terms of the plumping results, I do think that these claims are met. My lips do look instantly fuller with this product. It’s also nice that it’s semi-matte but doesn’t dry out the lips at all. It feels pretty light on the lips and doesn’t seem to settle into any lines.

However, I have also been disappointed in how quickly the product fades. For $37, I shouldn’t have to reapply 4-5 times throughout my workday. I’m always okay with 1-2 touch-ups per day, but 4-5 is something I’d only expect from a drugstore product – not Dior.

Overall, I’m really disappointed with this new product. It’s definitely not worth the hype or the money. I still love Dior lip products, but this one was a bust!

Too Faced Melted Latex Lipstick

I’ve been wanting bold lips lately. I know that liquid lipsticks are supposed to make it easier to have long-lasting bold lips, but I find so many of them to be way too dry to be comfortable for all-day wear. But recently, I decided to try the Too Faced Melted Latex Lipstick. This product can be purchased from Sephora ON SALE for just $10!

First, I was so impressed by this product. It was so easy to use. Just one coat gave an even, opaque look on the lips. It felt pretty soft of the lips too, and while it was relatively long-lasting, it did not make my lips feel too dry. Also, there was a glossy finish instead of a matte finish, which I definitely prefer.

The color did not last all day, and I reapplied around lunch since eating seemed to remove most of it, but I was still pleased with the outcome. By the end of the day, it had faded quite a bit, but it faded pretty evenly.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to people who want a long-wear liquid lipstick but do not want their lips to get overly dry. You will have to touch it up at least once throughout the day, but I think that’s worth it in exchange for lips that aren’t too dry.

YSL Red Lipstick for Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! There’s a lot of emotion behind this day for a lot of people, but I just think it’s a nice day to wear lots of pink or red and let people know that you care about them. This is my first Valentine’s Day in while where I’m single, but I’ve still been looking forward to it. I even baked some red velvet cookies for my coworkers and bought cheesy little cards for everyone. Topping it all off is this great new red lipstick I found: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in – 1 Le Rouge. This product can be purchased from Sephora and similar retailers for $37.

This beautiful blood red shade is so easy to apply. Just one shade will give you a completely opaque look. Sometimes, especially with red lipstick, it can be hard to coat the lips without a liner to hold the color within the lines of your lips, but this one was very easy to use without a liner. It didn’t feel at all messy, even when I was eating. I did reapply after eating a meal, but I think that’s fair. It doesn’t claim to be terribly longwearing, which is probably why it didn’t dry out my lips. Instead, it had this lovely satin sheen throughout the day. As it did fade, I found that it faded evenly until my lips just looked stained slightly red.

Overall, I was really impressed with this lipstick. I always love finding a beautiful red shade! This one does have just a hint of an orange undertone, which I generally do not prefer, but it didn’t clash with my cool, pale skintone. Typically, however, orange undertones work better with warmer complexions than mine. But it was subtle enough that the lipstick still works.

There was just one thing that I didn’t like about the product: it was super floral scented. I’m not really used to lip products smelling like anything, especially high-end lipsticks. But this one was just very floral and a little musky. It’s super distracting when you first apply the lipstick, but the scent does fade pretty quickly which is good.

So what are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Are you going to rock a red lip too?

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick

As a disclaimer, I hate when my lips feel dry. Since so many matte liquid lipsticks dry out the lips, I typically dislike them. However, I was recently given a Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick, so I wanted to review it as best as I could. This product can be purchased at Sephora and similar retailers for $20.

So, first, from the manufacturer comes this claim: “The tried and true comfort-wear formula from top beauty expert, Huda Kattan, is infused with antioxidants and an exclusive complex to help maintain the lips’ hydration.” This is just untrue. I applied a very thin layer of this lipstick and within minutes my lips felt so uncomfortably dry that I wiped it off and applied a gloss instead. I don’t know why every liquid lipstick insists on claiming that it’s non-drying. In order for it to be matte and longwearing, it has to have some level of dryness. That’s just the nature of the beast with these products, and this one is no exception.

However, if you don’t mind the dryness that comes with a liquid lipstick, this was a pretty good one. It only took one swipe to maintain an opaque and even look. The second time I wore it and forced myself to wear it for about four hours, I noticed that the color hadn’t faded by the time I took it off. If there was any wear at all, it was very even. Overall, for a liquid lipstick, this one was nice. But I’m still not a convert at all.

Laura Mercier Lipstick – Devotion

I think I may have found the perfect neutral pink lipstick! One of my favorite lip colors is medium, neutral pink because my lips are naturally pretty pink so it looks like my natural lips but with a little extra pop. Recently, I tried the Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in the shade Devotion, and I was blown away. This product retails at Sephora and similar retailers for $28.

As I’ve already stated, the biggest factor I love is the color. I feel like I can wear this lipstick with just about any look, and it is very flattering on my skintone. Since it’s rather neutral, though, it should actually flatter most skintones.

However, there are more factors that are very positive when it comes to this product. First, the finish is amazing. It’s almost matte but it has kind of a subtle satiny finish. This lipstick actually is both long-lasting and moisturizing which is incredibly rare. It’s kind of like finding a unicorn honestly. The lipstick contains mango butter, though, which is why it does not dry out the lips. Still, the texture isn’t wet or buttery but has kind of a velvety quality that is quite nice.

The pigment of this lipstick really pops easily. One swipe results in a completely opaque look. It applies evenly and smoothly in just one stroke, which is great if you’re in a hurry or on the go. I really can’t recommend it enough!
