Dior Addict Lip Lacquer

I am a red lipstick fiend, especially in autumn and winter. I’m already looking through my lipstick collection and making sure I have one for every occasion. As I was looking, I found one that I’ve had a while but have never reviewed: the Dior Addict Lacquer in American Girl (a shade that has been discontinued!) This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $37 (and if you like this shade – I think that 877 Turn Me Dior is the closest current shade to this one).

I adore the original Dior Addict lipsticks – they are comfortable to wear and last most of the day. They are longwear with minimal dryness. However, the Lacquer version of the Dior Addict lipsticks dry out the lips even less than the original. I experience zero dryness with these and I still get an all-day or almost all-day color.

There is a small drawback to this Lacquer version of lipstick: it can be a bit messy. It’s as opaque as a layer of paint. Because of this, you’ll only need one coat – but you’ll need to be very careful when applying it. Also, it’s a bit wet in terms of texture but it never dries down completely. This means it is prone to smudging, especially if you’re eating something like a sandwich where you might open your mouth very wide.

That being said, I really like this lipstick. I’ve learned that it’s best to apply just a very thin layer to keep smudging to a minimum. Also, I just really love this bright cherry red shade, so I’m bummed that they’ve discontinued this particular shade. Thankfully, I’ve got a lot left though. The one I have has a satin finish, but a few of them have glitter finishes, so that’s probably what I’ll have to try next!

Have you tried this lip lacquer or another type of lacquer? How did it compare to traditional lipstick for you? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Thanks for reading!

Miss Dior Eau de Parfum

I am so picky when it comes to scents. I know that fragrance is a really personal topic and it really all boils down to preference, but I just wanted to share my excitement over finally fining a fragrance that hasn’t yet bored me! I have discovered that I love Miss Dior Eau de Parfum.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the most budget-friendly scent. A one ounce bottle will set you back about $74. However, I think that I want this to become my new signature scent. My whole life, I’ve been obsessed with finding a signature scent. Fragrance memories are very powerful – how often do you smell a flower or food and feel transported back into a wonderful part of your past? I’ve always thought that having a signature scent might make me more memorable. In high school, my signature scent was Lucky You. It is very floral but fresh, and it made me feel more comfortable in my own skin. Then in college, I upgraded my signature scent to Gucci Guilty. This is the scent that made me feel like an adult. It’s a bold scent that made me feel more confident. I would wear it before meetings at works or workshops in school.

Now, I’m finding myself in a new place in life, and I feel like Miss Dior suits me better. It is both floral and fruity, and it’s strongest note is jasmine. It is a good blend of youth and maturity, and it does not smell musky or overly sugary. The smell evokes in me what I’m already feeling about myself. Instead of masking my insecurity with a fragrance that tricked me into feeling more confident, I can now just be myself.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm

Dearest Readers,

I’m back! The past six months have been INSANE. I feel like a completely new person. I’ve learned a lot of life lessons and I feel like I’ve recaptured my joy and focus in life. I also starting working on an MFA in creative writing since writing has always been my one true love. So, to reward you for your patience while I rebuilt my life, I give you the ultimate beauty find from the past six months: Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm

I cannot say enough good things about this product. Yes, it’s an expensive BB cream $39.00 1.5 oz. but it is a true skin saver. It has SPF 45, and it seamlessly blends in with the skin (something that is a struggle for most products with high SPF). It has a very good amount of coverage for a BB cream as well. It can’t completely cover my most stubborn of zits, but it does a great job at smoothing out my complexion and covering up minor imperfections. It also lasts all day, although this is most likely to happen if you use a dusting of finishing powder.

This is hands down the best BB cream I have ever used. I was initially nervous because it only comes in two shades, so I had to go with “light/medium.” Usually, anything with the word “medium” is too dark for my pale, cadaverous skin, but this one really blended well. It’s also versatile because my BFF with a genuinely medium skin tone can use the product just as well.

I definitely don’t have to use a separate morning moisturizer when using this product because it is very moisturizing. However, I have never looked oily after using this product. I do use finishing powder with this product (as I mentioned earlier) but that is to extend the coverage of the product and not because I require additional oil control with this product. I have combination skin that leans towards oiliness on my forehead and dryness on my cheeks, so this is the perfect product to balance my whole face. However, someone with very dry skin might need to use a moisturizer underneath the product, and someone with very oily skin might need to always use a powder over the product.

I started with a small sample bottle from Sephora, which quickly evolved into purchasing a full-sized item. And I’ve just repurchased another full-sized container in last week’s VIB Rouge sale (because I couldn’t pass up the 20% off option since I know this is a keeper!)

The only drawback to this product is about the packaging and not the product itself. The tube is hard and not squeezable, so it’s hard to tell how much product is left in the container. Also, because it is not a squeezable tube, it dispenses with a pump. Pumps can be prone to faultiness and often result in a bit of wasted product, which is a big bummer since this product is a bit expensive. However, I’ve found that shaking vigorously can help with the flow, and the pump can pop off so that you can clean the pump in warm water if it gets clogged. While the pump is off, you can also peer down into the tube and get some idea of how much product is left.

If I was told I could only ever promote ONE beauty product for the rest of my life or until it is discontinued (the product – not my life), I would absolutely choose to promote this product!

SK-II Facial Treatment Mask

Sheet masks are so trendy right now, so I’ve been trying some of them. I’ve found most of them to be pretty lackluster, but then I tried one that was included in a beauty box  several months ago: SK-II Facial Treatment Mask.

The mask was sopping wet when I pulled it out of the foil. I put it on my face and then went to go watch TV. The instructions say to leave it on for 15 minutes, but I had read reviews from lots of people who typically leave it on for 30 minutes, so I decided to leave it on for 30 minutes.

As I waited the 30 minutes, I could literally feel my skin changing. It just felt like it was getting increasingly more and more moisturized. Once I took the mask off, there was still some residue. I decided to rub it into my face instead of washing it off (there’s some debate online as to which is preferably, but I think you get more out of this product when rubbing it in). My skin was glowing! It looked amazing after just 30 minutes of wearing the mask. I kept checking it in the mirror to see if the effects had worn off but they hadn’t. This was a one-time-use sheet mask, but I actually decided to put it in a ziplock back and use the other the side the next evening.

When I woke up the next morning, my skin still looked great. My skin was glowing and looked clearer with much less noticeable acne than the day before. I was so incredibly impressed by this product. Unfortunately, I then looked up the price on Sephora’s website. You can buy one sheet mask for a whopping $17. That is so expensive for a one-time-use product, but it’s a lot less expensive than getting a professional facial. I will absolutely be buying this product when I want to splurge a little, but unfortunately it’s a bit too expensive for me to use it weekly. It’s for sure too expensive for me to use it two to three times a week which is what I’d really love to do.

So, to recap, if you are fabulously wealthy, you should absolutely include this mask in your usual skincare routine. If you are a poor librarian like me, I think it is still worth the splurge when you feel like your skin needs to refresh!

Dior Addict Lipstick

I have a lot of lipsticks, and most of them cost less than $20, so this product was a bit of splurge for me. The Dior Addict lipstick is available from Sephora for $35. I was tempted to buy this lipstick as a birthday present to myself after seeing the ads for this lipstick featuring Jennifer Lawrence wearing the shade “Be Dior.” This dark pink shade just looked so beautiful, and I wanted to splurge and try it for myself.

Dior Addict Lipstick – Shade: Be Dior 976

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful lipsticks I’ve ever worn. It is vibrant without completely overpowering my face. It can be layered for more effect, or you can wear just a sheer wash of this color. It is long-lasting without drying out the lips, and it is incredibly easy to apply.

So, you should you buy it?

Pros: The formula is so creamy and has an amazing punch of moisture. It can provide medium to buildable coverage, and it will last for a good amount of time before needing to be reapplied. The case is also magnetized, so it shouldn’t ever slide off and ruin your handbag.

Cons: The price is steep for a lipstick. Also, this doesn’t quite hold up against food and beverages. You’ll definitely need to reapply it by mid-day.

This is absolutely my favorite lipstick out there, and I think it is a great option if you want to splurge on a luxury product. Right now, I need to work through my enormous bag of lip products before purchasing another lipstick. But, once I can justify it, I will absolutely be purchasing more shades of this one!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

I was so excited to hear that the acclaimed Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation is finally available in the United States! So many magazines, including my very favorite Allure, have touted this as one of the best new foundations for covering up flaws, especially acne-prone skin. I just had to try it! But there was a problem … this product was not available in any store near Cincinnati, so I had to guess at which shade I am. I do not advise this. However, Charlotte Tilbury’s website does include excellent descriptions of each shade and which skin tone and undertone it should go with. There are also pictures of people wearing each shade, which was very helpful.

Beautiful packaging

I chose shade number 3 because I have fair/light skin with cool undertones. And then I waited for a week for it to be shipped to my apartment. While I waited, I’m certain that I irritated my boyfriend, friends, family members, coworkers, and a few kind-looking strangers with my anxiety. I really wanted this $44 foundation to be perfect and the right shade for my skin. I could not stop talking about it. Finally, it arrived and I raced to put a swatch on my hand. I was struck with instant disappointment (see image below) because it had a weird thick texture and looked orangey … but then I blended and the magic happened.

Before blending! The magic hasn’t started yet!

I have no idea how this foundation does it, but the texture even seems to change with the color as it blends into the skin. It covers and smooths EVERYTHING! My skin looks luminous and poreless with this foundation. It actually covers all my acne without looking cakey, and it doesn’t flake off or rub off during the day. This foundation was worth every single penny and the week of increased anxiety!

After blending! Where did my hand pores go???

So, should you buy it?

Cons: While I think it is worth the cost and is superior to every cheaper foundation I’ve tried, some people are not able or willing to pay $44 for a foundation. Also, the coverage is medium to full, so this is not the foundation for you if you are looking for something sheer or light.

Pros: This foundation really does cover up flaws and lasts all day. It blends well and looks incredibly natural. Also, this comes in 15 different shades, so there is a perfect shade for everyone (although, as always, I do recommend testing the shades before purchasing). After wearing this foundation every day for over a week, my skin actually feels softer and my acne has cleared up a bit. I haven’t had any other changes to my skincare or makeup routine, so I’m hoping I can contribute this to the foundation! Finally, this product has SPF 15, which is always an important factor no matter the season.

Overall, I am incredibly impressed with this foundation, and I plan on repurchasing this one again and again!
