NARS Orgasm Infatuation Palette

I am finding myself obsessed again with contouring. I love working with light and shadows to help create an optical illusion with my makeup to look just a bit better (slightly more angular and alive). During the summer, I find that I use cream products for contouring, but now that winter is coming, I wanted to find a powder alternative. During the latest Sephora sale, I decide to indulge a bit and buy a fantastic palette: the NARS Orgasm Infatuation Palette which is a limited edition Sephora exclusive that retails for $42.

This product is mentioned in my Sephora Holiday Sale YouTube Video – so definitely check that out for more first impressions!

First off, I adore the packaging with this product. It is so shiny and textured and interesting. However, that’s nothing compared to the amazing performance of the actual product. Now, I’m a very pale person, but these shades are nearly universally flattering, so even I can pull off this bronzer without looking muddy. The NARS Laguna bronzer is great for contouring because it adds depth without sparkle. This matte brown with no orange undertones is great for contouring the nose and under the cheekbones because the shade will create natural shadows (unlike some orangey or glittery bronzer which might actually make you look a bit swollen where you want to create depth and shadow).

The Orgasm blush is a beautiful pinky coral that looks like a natural flush of color which blends so well into the apples of the cheeks. It’s complemented nicely with the accompanying Orgasm highlighter which adds some great light and is a slightly warm champagne (but it’s not too warm – so even my cool complexion reacts well to it).

The powders in this palette are fantastic. They’re finely milled and blend very well. All of the shades apply lightly and can be built up as much as you’d like. That makes this the perfect product for even beginners to contouring because it allows for such control. Overall, I just can’t recommend this palette enough!

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette

Now that the Sephora Holiday Sale is over, I can focus on the amazing things I bought. One thing that I have no regrets buying is the Urban Decay Naked Cherry Palette which retails for $49.

I am obsessed with these beautiful pinks and purples! This palette contains 12 amazing shades for a whole range of looks from subtle to dramatic. One great thing about Urban Decay shadows is that they are incredibly blendable and easy to work with. They look so smooth on the lid and will last literally all day long! The pigmentation is also super vibrant! About half of the shades are matte and the others have some shimmer, but there’s no chunky glitter. All the sparkle is very finely milled but still catches the light beautifully.

When Naked Heat came out, I passed on it because it seemed way too warm to go with my cool-toned complexion. I’m so thrilled that Urban Decay came out with this gem which is absolutely perfect for me! I can’t wait to reach for this one every day for the foreseeable future!

What do you think of this palette? Is it one you’re tempted to purchase or are you overloaded with all the great palettes on the market? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Sephora Holiday Sale Haul!

This was a great year for the Sephora Holiday Sale! I got some products that I am loving, so I just had to share a video with some of my thoughts and impressions (also, I think this thumbnail that YouTube picked is hilarious, so I kept it as is because I feel like it’s a pretty accurate facial expression for when I’m excited lol):

Here are the products mentioned in the video:

NARS Orgasm Infatuation Palette: This palette contains the Laguna bronzing powder, Orgasm blush, and Orgasm highlighting powder ($42).

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette: This palette has 12 amazing eyeshadow shades in some gorgeous pinks, purples, and reds ($49).

Sunday Riley Space Race Collection: This set contains the Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner, the UFO Acne Treatment Face Oil, and the Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask ($65).

I’m hoping to do more in-depth reviews after I’ve had more of a chance to play around with these products!

New YouTube Channel!

Hi Everyone!

Haute Couture Society is evolving! As of today, I’ve started a YouTube channel. Here’s my FIRST VIDEO!

Part of why I wanted to do a YouTube channel is to infuse this brand with a bit more of my personality. There are certain things that I can convey better in a different medium.

But also, I tend to really hide behind my keyboard. I’m very self-conscious about my appearance. I hate photos and videos, and that’s something I really want to change. I know that posting things online is like opening myself up for public ridicule, and I need to be okay with that. I’m hoping that this endeavor will help me connect a little more with myself and will help me be comfortable again in my own skin.

Anyway, thanks to all of you who have been on this journey with me. I really appreciate it! There will be plenty of blog posts and videos to come!

Tom Ford Lip Color

I love when Sephora sends me samples of products that intrigue me even though I know I’d never buy them. Such was the case with today’s product: the Tom Ford Lip Color. This lipstick is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $55.

To be fair, this is a fabulous lipstick. It’s opaque, comfortable to wear, long-lasting, and satiny in texture. All of these are definitely qualities that I love in lipstick! So, if you have a big budget, by all means, go for this one! I mean, just look at the beautiful packaging. It exudes elegance. However, I just can’t justify spending $55 on a lipstick. This may seem kind of hypocritical since I own several of Dior’s $35 lipsticks, but there’s just something in my mind about spending $55 on one single lipstick that makes me think I’d be crossing some sort of line with my makeup addiction.

Maybe someday I’ll be fabulously wealthy enough to not blink twice as I buy this in every color … but today is not that day!

Where is your maximum price line for lipstick? I’m genuinely curious, so please let me know in the comment section!

Also … Happy Halloween!

The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm

As the weather turns cooler, I know it’s time to prevent chapped lips. Whether caused by cold weather or too much longwear lipstick, I know my lips tend to be dryer than I’d like them to be, so I am always on the lookout for the next best balm. Recently I was able to try the Antioxidant Lip Balm from The Organic Pharmacy. This product retails online for $21.50.

I am obsessed with this balm now! It’s exceptionally nourishing and moisturizing without ever feeling even a bit sticky. It has some amazing ingredients too: shea butter, vitamin e oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, honey, pomegranate, and rose hips. Since using this product regularly, my lips feel smoother, more supple, and never dry. I can’t wait to use this one all winter long. I highly recommend it!

Have you used this product or do you have a different favorite lip balm? Be sure to let  me know in the comment section!

Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick

I really love the Too Faced Melted lipsticks. Too Faced tends to discontinue all the products I end up loving, but thankfully they just keep coming out with more and more of these lipsticks. The latest version I had the opportunity to try is the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick, which can be purchased at Sephora and similar retailers for $21.

I was sent the shade “Queen B” which is supposed to be a soft mauve. While it definitely has mauve undertones, it seems too brown to really work with my complexion and has a tendency to make me look a bit sickly. So, I wouldn’t recommend this particular shade to those with cool skin tones or people who are very pale. Still, this was a pretty good lipstick.

It is indeed very matte, but it is not uncomfortable to wear. The texture is a bit velvety, but it sits lightly atop the skin of the lips. It’s pretty opaque, so you’ll only need one or two coats. Also, it’s not very messy and does apply pretty evenly (which can’t be said of the melted latex lipstick range). In terms of wear, it won’t last through a whole meal but it will stand up just fine when drinking. So, you’ll have to reapply at least once throughout the day, but it’s not too much of a hassle because it tends to fade pretty evenly. Overall, this is an improvement for the melted lipstick concept and another win for the Too Faced brand.

Have you tried any version of the melted lipsticks? Be sure to share your experience in the comment section!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

Hourglass is known for their amazing highlighters, but as a brand, they have so much more to offer. Recently, I got a sample of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and now I’m in love! This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $54.

First off, I love how this feels against my skin. It’s silky without making me feel oily or like something is coating my skin, and it really does smooth down my skin to prepare for an even makeup application. Also, some primers seem to irritate my acne, but this one has not!

Besides the great texture of the product, I have also found that makeup seems to last longer after using this product. Of course, that’s a huge benefit! Yes, the price tag is a bit higher than I’d like to see for a primer, but if it’s in your budget, I think it would be a good investment.

Have you tried this primer or do you have a favorite primer you want to share? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer

Recently, I was picking some things up at the drugstore, when a stunning pink glossy lip product caught my eye. It was on sale, so I just had to have it, and that’s how I ended up trying the Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer which retails for about $5 at select drugstores.

First, this is more of a liquid lipstick than a gloss even though it is very much packaged like a gloss. It is extremely opaque so the color you see is the color you’ll get on your lips with just one swipe. Still, it was easy to apply and faded pretty evenly throughout the day. It wasn’t messy at all and didn’t spread out while I ate a full meal. There’s minimal transfer, but it’s easy to reapply if needed.

Overall, I thought this was such a great, affordable product. It’s easy to apply, inexpensive, long-lasting, non-drying, and gorgeous! The only thing I didn’t care for was the scent. It very much smells like paint, which is a bit off-putting until you get used to it. Still, I was very impressed by this product, and I think I’ll have to pick up some more shades!

Smashbox Primers

Smashbox was one of the brands that seemed to convince the makeup world that we really did need to be wearing primers. I remember when I first used their Original Primer which literally blurred my imperfections. I was hooked! Recently, I received this cool sample of Smashbox Primers, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to discuss the different types of primers. These are sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $15 – $50 (mostly depending on the size of the container).

First, there’s the Golden-Hour Glow Radiance Primer, which has some sparkle to really enhance a dull complexion. This would be a great option for people with dry skin but not aging skin where the shimmer might settle into the face’s nooks and crannies.

Then, we have the Smooth + Blur Original Primer, which was the first primer I used years ago. It really coats the skin to create a smooth base for makeup. It does tend to feel a bit heavy, but I love the finish it gives my skin.

Next, there’s the 8-Hour Oil + Shine Control Minimize Pores Primer, which is ideal for oily skin. This is a more mattifying primer that combats oil and shine all day long.

Finally, there’s the Super Lightweight Smooth + Blur Primer, which is a lighter version of the original primer. For anyone who feels the original is too heavy on their skin (which is likely people with combination/oily skin), this is a great version that still smooths everything and blurs imperfections. With the current state of my skin, this is definitely the winner for me!
