I love buying and trying new skincare products. There’s something so fun about a face mask. However, sometimes I enter into a mood where I get obsessed with natural products and remedies. The last time this happened, I discovered the many health benefits of coconut oil! For under $10 you can get an enormous jar that will last so long and give you so many skincare benefits.
The first way I use coconut oil is as a face mask. Coconut oil is super moisturizing and smells amazing! Sometimes, I’ll put it on my face and then just wait 30 minutes before washing it off my skin. Coconut oil contains antibacterial and antifungal properties, so it may be great for acne. This seems to be the case for me because it always leaves my skin smoother and hasn’t caused any new breakouts, however I have heard that some people get more acne when they use coconut oil – so you may just have to try it and see how your skin reacts. I’ve been really pleased with my results though!
Since coconut oil is super moisturizing, I’ll sometimes use it as a body mask too. For instance, 30 minutes before a shower, I’ll slather my feet and knees and elbows with coconut oil and I’ll let it absorb and soften before my shower. The reason I do this pre-shower instead of post-shower is that I’ve found that coconut oil doesn’t absorb as completely as a lotion will, and it seems to always leave an undesirable residue if I don’t wash it off.
Finally, coconut oil can be used as a really effective makeup remover. It can even remove dramatic eye makeup. There’s something about the oil that seems to melt the makeup and make it super easy to wash off. In fact, using coconut oil kind of reminds me of the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. It’s a great first step in a double-cleanse!
