La Prairie Skin Caviar Foundation

Foundation makes or breaks the overall look of your makeup. It is the base for everything else. A good foundation will smooth everything and cover minor (or major) flaws. A bad foundation will separate and pill and leave you looking splotchy the later into the day that you get. Recently, I was sent a deluxe sample of the La Prairie Skin Caviar Foundation. This product is sold at Nordstrom and similar retailers for $195 (not a typo – just insanely expensive!) for just one ounce of product.

At such a staggering price, I would have expected this product to perform actual miracles on my skin. But the results were literally worse than an $8 bottle of something from Maybelline. I think the best way to describe this foundation is that it was extremely wet. I had a sample that was big enough for maybe 3 or 4 days of wear, but I definitely tried to extend it at first by just using a little bit of the foundation. Still, even with just a thin layer, my skin felt immediately really wet and it never dried down. It just kept getting worse throughout the day and I felt so oily. After maybe three hours, the foundation had separated so much that I looked extremely blotchy. Every single day, I had the same experience. The first day, I wore the foundation on its own, but the subsequent days, I used a variety of finishing powders to combat the oiliness (and none of them helped). To add insult to injury, I was starting to break out pretty bad by the third day too (and it cleared up after a few days of not wearing this foundation).

Now, my skin can get occasionally oily depending on the season, but it’s typically very combination. Because of this, I feel like maybe this foundation would only be appropriate for those with exceptionally dry skin. It’s advertised as being for all skin types though, which I just don’t think is true. I hate to bash a product so completely, but this is one of the worst foundations I’ve tried and I’m just astounded by how a product can be so expensive and so terrible at the same time. Still, it looks like it’s getting great reviews from other people, so maybe my sample was bad or it just performs better on skin that is super parched.

Have you tried this foundation or anything else from La Prairie? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Trend Alert: Blue Jewelry

I used to wear a lot of jewelry, but I just haven’t as much lately. I’m not entirely sure why, but I suspect I’m getting lazier or I just lost interest when I stopped wearing my engagement ring. So, recently, I was browsing Nordstrom‘s website for inspiration, and I found a major trend in jewelry: the color blue! Now, I’m not really into the color blue (I think because my eyes are green, I just gravitate towards greens and purples instead), but I wanted to share some of my favorite picks:

Would you wear this trend or do you prefer different types of jewelry? Do you tend to wear the same jewelry or do you like to change it up? Be sure to let me know in the comments section! As for me, I’m going to try to wear at least one piece of jewelry daily and see if I can get back into it again.

Trend Alert: Rounded Sunglasses

The sun has been out this week! I love this warmer weather, but it occurred to me that I have officially broken every pair of sunglasses I own. I decided to check out what trend appears to be in full-force this season, and it looks like the rounded and aviator-styles are trending right now! For inspiration, I found a few options (all available from Nordstrom). I’m not sure how well this style will suit my face shape (round/heart), but I might take these pictures as inspiration and find a cheaper version to try for a while to see if they grow on me.

Do you like this trend, or do you prefer a different shape for sunglasses? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Wishlist: Rebecca Minkoff

I feel like every season I end up buying a new purse. I haven’t done so yet for Spring 2018, but I have been looking for what I might want. I was browsing Nordstrom, and I found this beauty: the Rebecca Minkoff Large Bree Leather Satchel. It’s definitely at the top of my Spring wishlist now!

This bag retails for $345, so I’m thinking it will have to remain on the wishlist and not become a part of my reality anytime soon. I have already splurged a lot for graduation, and I just can’t justify any more! Still, I wanted to share this item because it signifies a trend in purses that I’ve seen a lot of this season: strict structure.

A lot of bags right now are very square or rectangular like this one. The structure is pretty classic. And a lot of these bags are oversized too (but remember – the bigger the bag is, the smaller your hips look!)

Another trend for Spring is solid colors. A lot of accessories have been solid this year instead of patterned. Sure, we’ve seen lots of fun patterned dresses, but largely the accessories have remained more neutral and chic.

I guess I’ll have to see if I can find a cheaper dupe for this at TJ Maxx or Gabes!

Have you purchased a new bag for Spring? Be sure to give me all the details in the comment section!

Mother’s Day Classic Gift Idea

Mother’s Day is tomorrow! It’s a great day where we celebrate the woman who has been there the most for us in life. I love my mom! We’ve become close friends since I entered adulthood, and we celebrated early by seeing a matinee show of the musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical this afternoon. Still, I wanted to share a sure-thing idea with you in case you’re still scrambling to find a gift last-minute.

I have always thought that pearls exude a timeless elegant. I know that my mother always classes up an outfit with a strand of pearls when it needs to be extra fancy, so maybe that’s why I associate pearls with my mother. When I saw these earrings at Nordstrom I instantly thought that they would make a great mother’s day gift. First, they are a steal at $45! Also, they have a great classic look from the brand Nina. While the pearl is imitation (obviously, for that price), the crystals are Swarovski, which add another nice touch.

Happy Mother’s Day to any mothers who might be reading this blog!
