Sunday Riley Space Race

It’s no secret that I still have acne even though I’m 27. The type of acne has definitely changed over the years. Now, it mostly seems hormonal (although I do find that certain greasy foods break me out a bit too). Because of my changing skincare needs, I decided to try some new kinds of products and buy the Sunday Riley Space Race collection which retails for $65 at Sephora.

This kit comes with three great Sunday Riley products that target acne. The products are not full-sized but they are large enough that you’ll probably be able to get about 2-3 months worth of use to help you make a decision before buying the very expensive full-sized versions.

The first product in this kit is the UFO Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil (the full-size retails for $80). This is my favorite of the three! It has some powerhouse ingredients like salicylic acid, tee tree oil, licorice, neroli, chamomile, and cucumber seed oil. This amazing combination is great at gently counteracting hormonal acne, moisturizing the skin, and fixing mild skin discoloration. This is a product I’ve used before and it’s very clear that it works for me, so I’ll definitely be purchasing the full-sized version when this one runs out. The only downside is that it smells strongly of oregano (which I don’t prefer) and my skin does tend to look a bit greasy if I use too much (which is why it is only part of my nighttime skincare routine).

The next product in this kit is the Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner (the full-size retails for $55). I’m enjoying this product too! It comes out as a cooling green gel that blends really well into the skin. In my Sephora Haul Video, I joked that it kind of feels like alien snot (and I stand by that!) but I do love how it soothes my skin. It has some great ingredients: witch hazel, cucumber, black cumin, clay, marshmallow, and green tea. It feels extremely gentle on the skin and I like the cooling sensation too. It absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves my skin feeling both moisturized and mattified. I have combination skin where some bits feel dry but my t-zone can get oily, and this is just the perfect product for me because it moisturizes where I need it while combatting oil and creating a smooth canvas for my makeup. To be honest, I’ve replaced my morning moisturizer AND primer with this product, so I will definitely be purchasing the full-size version of this one too!

The final product in this kit is the Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask (the full-size retails for $55). This mask contains sulfur, tea tree oil, clay, and manuka oil to combat acne without drying the skin out too much. I will say that sulfur is an amazing ingredient for acne, and I do find that this one clears up stubborn zits pretty quickly if I use it as a spot treatment. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised that it hasn’t dried out my skin as many sulfur-based products do. However, I just can’t purchase the full-size version of this product. Sulfur smells awful, and I hoped that I’d be able to deal with it for the sake of my skin, but I just can’t. I hate getting a whiff of the scent even after I’ve washed it off, and the smell even lingers on the towel I use to dry my face after washing this off. Overall, it’s a great product, and it’s not Sunday Riley’s fault that sulfur naturally smells so bad, but I just have found that I can’t stomach it.

So, what sorts of products do you find work best for your hormonal acne? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Sephora Holiday Sale Haul!

This was a great year for the Sephora Holiday Sale! I got some products that I am loving, so I just had to share a video with some of my thoughts and impressions (also, I think this thumbnail that YouTube picked is hilarious, so I kept it as is because I feel like it’s a pretty accurate facial expression for when I’m excited lol):

Here are the products mentioned in the video:

NARS Orgasm Infatuation Palette: This palette contains the Laguna bronzing powder, Orgasm blush, and Orgasm highlighting powder ($42).

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette: This palette has 12 amazing eyeshadow shades in some gorgeous pinks, purples, and reds ($49).

Sunday Riley Space Race Collection: This set contains the Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner, the UFO Acne Treatment Face Oil, and the Saturn Sulfur Acne Treatment Mask ($65).

I’m hoping to do more in-depth reviews after I’ve had more of a chance to play around with these products!

Did you participate in the holiday sale? What did you get?? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil

Acne is so annoying, but it’s even more annoying trying to find a product that can combat it well. There are lots of acne-fighting ingredients on the market, but they just don’t work for everyone. It takes some trial and error to see what will work for you. Thankfully, I’ve discovered that products with blue tansy seem to really help my skin, so I was excited when I was sent a deluxe sample of the Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil which contains blue tansy. This product is sold at Sephora and similar retailers for $105.

I’m not going to lie, I definitely wanted to hate this product because of the steep price tag. Unfortunately, like most Sunday Riley products, it was actually fantastic. Even after one use, my skin looked clearer and more radiant. Over time, my acne has started improving, and my pores look less noticeable. It even helped my dry skin. Literally the only thing I can complain about with this product (besides the price) is the smell. I can’t quite describe the scent, but it’s definitely nearing rancid. Thankfully, you get used to it after a few minutes.

Well, I guess I’m just going to have to surrender and start investing more in Sunday Riley. This is a dark day for my wallet.

Have you tried this product or something else from Sunday Riley? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Sunday Riley The Influencer Clean Longwear Foundation

I ran out of my beloved Make Up For Ever foundation recently, so I decided to purchase a new medium-to-full coverage foundation. As I was browsing Sephora’s website, I saw that Sunday Riley has actually released their first foundation. Sunday Riley is a skincare company that has definitely achieved cult status for their amazing products. I was so intrigued that I got the new Sunday Riley The Influencer Clean Longwear Foundation in the Sephora sale. This foundation retails for $42 at Sephora.

Recently, my skin has been a bit oilier than usual, and this foundation has been amazing at combating that. This foundation has a pump that administers the foundation as a liquid. The consistency of the liquid is very medium – it’s neither thick (which can be difficult to blend) or watery (which rarely provides decent coverage). Like most foundations, a beauty blender or sponge will help with the application. However, I was amazed that one pump of this product could cover my entire face so well. There’s no need to layer with this one. It covers all redness and most acne and leaves a gorgeous satin-matte finish, which I love because it keeps my oiliness at bay without looking too matte or cakey.

The coverage is fantastic. It can be built up easily to a full-coverage, and even with only one layer, I don’t have to use nearly as much concealer as I used to. The lasting power is also fantastic, and I don’t have to touch up at work as long as I’ve used a finishing powder with it. I definitely think I’ve found my new favorite foundation! Yes, $42 is kind of high for 1.08 oz of product, but this one is worth every penny to me.

The range of shades for this product is also pretty expansive. There are 20 shades to choose from in their color spectrum. I’m very fair and I use the second lightest shade – 110 (for very fair skin with pink undertones).

This product works so well for my combination/oily skin, but I imagine that it wouldn’t perform as well with dry skin. The matte finish does feel a bit drying, which has worked well for me, but I would proceed with extreme caution if you already have dry skin. If you do decide to still try it because you like the finish and coverage, you might have to pair it with a very moisturizing primer if you already have dry skin.

Since Sunday Riley is a skincare company, of course they’ve packed this product with good-for-you ingredients too. This includes Canadian willow herb, northern truffle extract, and bisabolo. It’s also cruelty free!

I’m so impressed with this product! Have you had a chance to try it? Be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comment section!

Free stock photo of flowers, petals, bouquet, roses

Rouge members use the code “yayrouge” for 15% off during April 13-16 and April 20-23.

VIB members use the code “yayvib” for 15% off during April 20-23.

When making online purchases, be sure to use the codes at checkout.

I’ve already made my purchases, since Rouge members get a few early dates, and here’s what I purchased:

The Bare Minerals bareSkin Perfecting Veil Finishing Powder – I’ve been a bit oilier lately and my acne’s been worse, so I needed a pressed powder which I feel is easier to layer over problem skin than loose powder.

Make Up Forever Full Coverage Concealer – Again, with the acne I need something heavy-duty to help cover up.

Sunday Riley The Influencer Clean Long Wear Foundation – This brand has a major cult following and I’ve been so excited to try this new foundation!

Dior Addict Lip Lacquer – I’m obsessed with Dior lip products, so I have to try all their new ones! And this one has major glitter…

Caudalie Instant Detox Mask – This is an amazing, gentle mask that can be used every day and is fantastic for acne. You can read my full review here.

Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask – This mask is also amazing for acne. I initially didn’t love it because of the smell, but I was won over by how it helped my skin. You can read my full review here.

Sunday Riley UFO Acne Treatment Face Oil

Sunday Riley skincare products are cult favorites with huge followings. Unfortunately, they’re also really expensive so these are the types of products I always secretly hope won’t work with my skin so that I’m not tempted to buy them. That was actually true for the first few products I tried, but I have sadly fallen in love with the Sunday Riley UFO Ultra-Clarifying Acne Treatment Face Oil. This oil retails at Sephora and similar retailers for $40 for half of an ounce. That’s right. Half of an ounce.

First, I will issue a warning. This product smells BAD. It’s very overpowering and kind of smells like rancid oregano. Whenever I use it, I immediately have to moisturize with my Dr. Jart+ Tiger Grass Cream so that it can cover up the scent. However, this product works so well and has really helped my acne. Thankfully, you can use just a little bit and it will cover your whole face. The applicator is an eyedropper, and you probably only need half of the dropper or less to cover the whole face. It’s very easy to work into the skin, and it’s not a very harsh product so it won’t dry out the skin. In fact, since it’s an oil, it’s pretty moisturizing all on its own.

This serum is jam-packed with amazing skincare ingredients. In this product, the main ingredient for fighting acne is salicylic acid, but it also contains gems such as tea tree oil, black cumin seed oil (both of which fight acne), and licorice (which is good for brightening complexion). To nourish the skin and combat dryness, it also includes cucumber seed oil, chamomile, and neroli. Overall, I’ve been ridiculously impressed with this product, and I’m glad that, at least compared to other Sunday Riley products, it’s not the most expensive.

Sunday Riley Good Genes

First of all, I’d like to start this blog post by saying that I have never been so happy to dislike a product, but more of that to come…

I received a sample of Sunday Riley’s Good Genes in my last Play! box from Sephora. The Sunday Riley brand has a huge cult following right now. Skincare addicts of all sorts are absolutely obsessed with this brand, and I was so happy to see this was in my Play! box so that I could see what all the hype was about!

Is the cult following wrong?

This product is supposed to be a powerhouse in the skincare world. It claims to be anti-aging while fading dark spots. I was excited to try this product because AHA acids (like lactic acid – a main ingredient in this product) are supposed to be great for fading and filling in acne scars. I, unfortunately, have quite a few acne scars on my face, and I’m desperate for them to disappear.

I said earlier that I was so glad that this product didn’t work for me. That is because it is $105 for just 1 oz of product. That is really expensive, and it does not fit comfortably in my skincare budget. So, I was just a little pleased when I experienced an unpleasant stinging sensation each time I put this on my face. I was also just a little excited to see clusters of red bumps and a few zits on my chin and cheeks the day after using this product. I tried it on four occasions and each morning, my skin looked worse.

Now, this may still be an amazing product for some. I’m sure there’s a reason this product and brand have such a huge following. I think the most likely scenario is that this is made for skin that is more mature than my own. Still, $105 for 1 oz of product is hefty for most budgets. I’m just afraid that had this been the miracle product I’ve been looking for, I would have given up other things (like food and extra lipstick) in order to buy a steady supply. My wallet and fiance are both very glad I dodged that bullet!

Sephora Spring Sale!

Hi there, fellow beauty junkies! Guess what? Sephora‘s semi-annual sale is almost here!!!!!

If you are a VIB or VIB Rouge, you should be receiving 15% off! The sale begins for VIB Rouge members on Thursday April 7th and for VIB Members on Friday April 8th. The sale will continue through Wednesday the 13th.

So, what should we buy?

I am feeling pretty well-stocked on the makeup front. However, I would like to take this opportunity to stock up on some skincare products – specifically, I want to try some Peter Thomas Roth and Dr. Jart+ products! I think my bestie has also convinced me to try the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray.

Many beauty bloggers have been talking up the extremely expensive brand Sunday Riley, so this may be your perfect opportunity to score some for a discount!

Let me know in the comment section what you plan on picking up during the sale!

And, dear readers, please help me with something after this sale. I feel like I have so many new products and product samples that I really need to work though before I buy anything else. So, after participating in this sale, I plan on going on a spending sabbatical until I feel like I’ve worked through and reviewed most of my current collection. So, if I casually mention buying a beauty/skincare product after April 7th, please shame me a little either here or on twitter. I need to be held accountable.

(P.S. – I just would like to publicly admit that every time I end a blog post, I sincerely want to end it with: “XOXO – Gossip Girl.” I really miss that show.)
